City of Eugene City Hall Complex Master Plan
Community Forum #1-Questionnaire Responses

. Structure forums to better use the community's wisdom in the room beyond vote
responses to canned information. Otherwise actual value of participating drops
significantly.
. Suggest simplifying forum agendas to create space to have dialogue.
. Craft questions in a manner that permits a full spectrum of responses.
. If you want to get responses from the public you need to allocate enough time for the
public to provide them.
. Fewer structural exercises and more open discussion amongst participants.
. The meeting is not a good cross-section of my community or neighborhood or the people
I work with.
. Stop people from pontificating on personal issues and stick to the topic at hand.
. Pretty good job.
. I think the facilitators did a goodjob with an unruly group of Eugeneans.
. I think the time to go down the individual values was not too useful.
. I think it's important to start the interactive part of the evening a bit earlier in the process.
At the same time, it is important to keep control and limit comments to the matter at
hand. I am really not interested in a free-for-all discussion where folks are basically just
using the air time to espouse their particular editorial comments.
. Please discourage renegades who bring their own agendas that don't relate to the City
Hall proj ect.
. Better phrasing of questions.
. Try to keep comments focused on issues at hand and refrain from political commentary.
. More open discussion.
. Best of luck.
. Have an agenda, so people will know the flow, and not waste time.

The JD White Company, Inc.

Page 11

April 2006
