City of Eugene City Hall Complex Master Plan
Community Forum #1-Questionnaire Responses

. Do not make the meetings so long. I like the pizza. P.S. I do not see much cultural
diversity at this meeting-please make sure you invite other members of the community
that may not be as vocal (Hispanic especially).
. (1) Tell the City Council to get out of the way. (2) Take destruction of the existing City
Hall off the table. (3) Then engage the public in a real process.
. Better participants. I was shocked at the paranoia and immaturity of some of the
participants. The Council's goals were so generic that they provided no direction for a
rowdy group of people whose motives seem to be to disrupt rather than provide useful
assistance. Our table thought that the bubbles designating City services should include
the Department for the Development of Conspiracies or Paranoia Development.
. Consider alternatives that include preservation of the current City Hall as is, upgrading
for safety needs, and devote remaining funds to parks and greenways.
. Remember to use gender neutral words-not "you guys." Rather, "you folks" or "you
all." (First female used "you guys." Casey?)
. Please do not call Annette "the lovely Annette." It's confusing and even disturbing,
appears to be humorous but comes across as patronizing if not sexist-despite being said
by a fellow woman.
. O.K.
. Explain all steps of the current meeting at beginning of the meeting. Ensure that ideas
that come out of these sessions that may not mesh with pre-conceived ideas are given
equal status in moving forward.
. More discussion and information before questions-such as space and cost required by
patrol cars.
. When specific issues are raised, explain where in the process they will be addressed.
. Allow and encourage open-ended questions, such as having us decide how this process
runs, giving us the right to choose which options to rate.
. Nobody cares except you.
. Only organic food please and no white plates.
. No Pepsi-fruit juice or similar.
. Do one on Farmers Market (year round covered) and homeless shelter.
. Give up this pipe dream of new construction. Hard times are ahead.
. Recycle. Spending $1.2 million is a waste of tax dollars. Get a clue!
. No plastic water bottles. Please use water and recycled paper cups. (No dump space left).
. You delete the five alternatives. No new City Hall/Police Station.
. Regarding our bad planning department-we've already met the limits of growth. We
dumped millions of gallons of untreatable sewage into the river because there was too
much rain last year.
. The City Council needs to be clear about one thing-do not build a new City Hall/Police
station with funds you requested from other funding pools. The public is outraged that
you apparently have been pilfering and pooling our funds to do your deal just in case the
public vehemently opposes it. We don't trust the planning department or City Manager.
. I believe after the Whole Foods parking garage ordeal that the public process does not
feel safe or even like it matters. Faith needs to be restored.

The JD White Company, Inc.

Page 1 0

April 2006
