Mayor Kitty Piercy and City Council
My name is Amanda Cantwell. I am an 8th grade student at Prairie Mountain
School. I would like to bring to your attention the Golden Garden Ponds, or as a lot
of people know it as "the pits".

I know just from living here in this community that these ponds are NOT a

priority 1, but let me tell you, my best friend drowned there, and to me there's no

other priority more important. Not only did Nick drown there, but 3 other boys

have lost there lives in the exact same place.

It's sad that people know about what happened, and they don't do anything

about it. Four kids have already died; how many more is it going to take for people

to realize that those ponds are dangerous?

I don't expect you to do everything; that's why my classmates and I are

starting to clean up around the banks of the pond and were even planning to put in

a memorial to show that people have died there. Maybe that will distract people

from the ponds.

You are the person that can make the difference, the difference to save many

lives! ... Please don't be selfish and just put this problem and this park on the

backburner. If we would have made it a priority years ago after the 3rd death, my

best friend would still be here. I will never be the same. Do the right thing and do

something with that place that has become a burial ground!

Sincerely,

Amanda Cantwell
