Mayor Piercy and Members of City Council

I am writing this letter to you, Mayor and the City Council, about how dangerous

the Golden Garden ponds are. I am an 8th grade student who goes to Prairie Mountain

School. My name is Justin Huelsman. I have lost a friend and so has everyone else in 8th

grade. Our 8th grade class has brainstormed ideas that we could do as a community and
you could do as a city.

A few suggestions on how you could make the ponds safer is by planting an

actual garden there so people have something more to look at than ponds. That way they

will look at all the flowers and plants and not think about the ponds. Another thing you

could do is put up bright, eye catcher signs that say, " DANGER NO SWIMMING."

Some more suggestions would be to put up barbeque pits and some grass so

people can have barbeques and play around in the grass. You also could spray

barkamolche to make actual trails through the ponds. The banks could be sloped so if

anyone does fall in they have a way of getting out; and you could use a playground for
the little kids.

Other ways to make the Golden Garden ponds safe would be to clean up the water

and cut all the weeds in the water. All of these suggestions that I am saying to you should

be ways to make the ponds safe. Even if you put up memorials to show everyone who

comes to these ponds how many people have died there and why it should be safe.

Thank you so much for taking your time to listen to all of my suggestions. I hope

that you make this a priority 1 in the city of Eugene. I thank you for listening to what I

have had to say.

Sincerely,

Justin Huelsman
