Mayor Kitty Piercy and Members of the City Council:
My name is Gabrielle Williams and I am an eighth grade student at
Prairie Mountain. As you all know there have been a couple of tragedies
over the years at Golden Garden Ponds. One of them would be my friend
of seven years, Nick Davis. This death has affected a numerous amount of
students at our school and definitely his family.
These ponds are not safe for anyone. They have all kinds of trash,
vegetation and water currents that most of the time aren't visible to the
visitor's eye. It is very important that something changes so that no one
has to go through loosing a friend or family member to the ponds again.
My class members and I plan to go to the ponds to plant trees and
flowers to draw the attention away from the thought of swimming. I would
also like to put signs around the ponds to let visitors know how deceiving
and dangerous they are. Many other students including myself hope to
see a memorial area to let people know that the Golden Garden Ponds
have taken lives. I would like to see a sandbox or a playground area so
that younger children aren't attracted to the water. I also hope to see a
barbecue pit so that parents would be more likely to spend time with their
kids there and make sure that they don't go near the water.

(j)
