Mayor Kitty Piercy and members of the City Council;

My name is Brandee Rhodes and I am an eighth grade student attending Prairie

Mountain Middle School. I am writing this letter to bring to your attention to the tragic

losses that many have faced because of the Golden Garden Ponds. These ponds have done

nothing but bring pain and suffering to our community.

Over the last twelve years, four teenage boys have drowned in them and a few years

prior to these accidents, another teen had drowned. To me that is saying something along

the lines of danger. It is important to make this place safe because of the fact that it is a

public place and parents allow their children to go play in that area. Kids are going to be

kids and explore their surroundings. If these ponds are not safe, than we are risking

another death. Being a friend to a few of these boys, I know how it feels to lose someone

close and I don't think that anybody else should have to be put through it.

The eighth grade class at Prairie Mountain have come up with several ideas on how

we can make it a better place for us and for our future generations. To go for an easy start

we could begin with planting trees and plants. After that, I believe that putting up sings

could help show parents what their kids will be messing around with. It could help prevent

many unexpected goodbyes for all.

Thank you for reading this letter and I ask that you take into serious consideration

all of the things that I have brought to your attention. These things are very important to, not

only me, but the entire community. We have all been affected in one way or another. I hope

to see a change in the situation involving the ponds.

Sincerely,

Brandee Rhodes
