Mayor Kitty Piercy and Members of City Council:

My name is Brittany Noelle Burian and I am an eighth grade student at Prairie

Mountain SchooL-I, as well as other families and students here at PMS, would like to

bring to your attention the Golden Garden Ponds and the horrific event that has taken
place there.

This last summer, two young boys drown. Though I did not know either one of

them, it hurt me too. Those were two people that I could be great friends with right

now. Feeling this pain makes me think about how much it must hurt the people who

already were their friends and close to them. What about their family? Those boys,

Nick and Britton, were related. Someone else related to them stood there from the side

lines just watching them drown because there was nothing they could do.

Four kids have drown there in the last twenty years and I am one of the many

people who feels strongly about making the GG Ponds safer and put a stop to the

drownings. I know that we don't have complete control over what people choose to do

but we can help prevent them from making the wrong choices. The eighth grade and I

have been talking and we think that we can do something about it ourselves. Taking a

field trip to go and clean up the Golden Garden Ponds area and planting some trees

around the ponds are just a couple of the actions we could take. We figure that by

making the Golden Garden Ponds more of an actual garden that people will be less

focused on the water and more focused on the beautiful scenery and the flowers. We

also wanted to put up a couple signs. The one we have been pondering over the most is

a memorial sign with a list of names of the people who have drown there. I think thats
CD
