MAYOR PIERCY AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL:

My name is Brittainy Wilson and I am an 8th grade student at Prairie Mountain

School. I would like to bring to your attention the Golden Garden Ponds. I have lost a

classmate to those ponds. I didn't know Nick Davis very well. All though we weren't

very close; he was still a classmate of mine. He always brought laughter and liveliness to

our class room. I was very sad when I found out that he and his cousin, Britton, had

drowned at Golden Garden Ponds. It brought our 8th grade class closer as friends. It

shouldn't be death that brings people together. If I was sad, you could only imagine what

his family must have felt. They must have been devastated. I just wanted to let you know

that to prevent more deaths, we need to make this major project the top priority on your

list.

In order to prevent more deaths, we need to make this area, where lots ofteens my

age like to hang out, safe. There are many ways to make the ponds safer. A few ways

could be to totally close them down. Since that is not a possibility, then we need to think

of something more realistic. Realistically thinking, we could make the ponds look nicer,

plant various flowers and trees, and we could also make it automobile accessible.

Our class is going to do our part by planting trees and shrubs. We want to make

this place safe now, instead of twenty years from now. I would like to be able to go there

and not worry about falling in the water or breaking my wrist walking on the un-safe

trails. I would like to go to those ponds and not worry about other people getting hurt or

myself. Nick Davis' death shouldn't be the reason of wanting to do something about this

(~
i )
_/
