This community has too few synthetic turf fields for the kinds of year-round
athletics that people in our area enjoy playing. While we have allleamed to share scarce spaces, the
shortage is frustrating and incomprehensible for a community of our size. As we visit other small cities
throughout the state, we can see how different communities have provided adequate facitilies
for growing numbers of recreational and competitive athletes. Besides the soccer players mentioned
above, there are leagues of ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, football, and rugby teams who search for places to
play throughout the year. The PROS plan provides a perfect opportunity for this community to address
these needs. Please do not forget about active sports facilities as you debate and revise this plan.

Thank you,
Evon Smith
President Eugene Metro Futbol Club

4/14/2006
