Message

WEISS Carolyn J

From: CARLSON Jim R
Sent: Tuesday, March 14, 2006 9:01 AM
To: COREY Kurt A; MEDLIN Johnny R; WEISS Carolyn J
Subject: FW: Turf fields

-----Original Message-----
From: Irobe88845@comcast.net [mailto: Irobe88845@comcast.net]
Sent: Monday, March 13,20062:41 PM
To: *Eugene Mayor and City Council
Subject: Turf fields

I want to offer my input regarding turf fields for the youth of our community.
I am 100% in favor of developing more fields for the children who participate in athletic activities.
The resources we have now, are pathetic and two few for the number of participants.
Rather than building dog pens, I would suggest that the children and youth should come first. Other communities
put a high priority on these kinds of projects for their communities. Go visit Medford, or Bend or any of the
Portland areas, you will find community built and supported Fields for their youth. Corvallis also offers such a
complex.
We spend a lot of time, effort and money on things that do not benefit most of the people most of the time.
This community needs a nice sports complex, a large sports complex.
We have a miriad of Club Sports that are very competative. These Clubs draw competitiors from all areas of the
state and beyond. These organizations do enhance our area with visitors, who spend money. We need to step up
to the plate and offer a decent space for everyone.
It is embarassing to have a Portland team come to Eugene to play in our case, soccer. We are allocated to some
back field some where, that is hard to find, full of chuck holes and poorly maintained, while just a few yards from
this same field a nice Turf field sits being unused. You should have to listen to the comments of the visitors in this
situation, certainly not complimentary at all.
This city, Eugene, has a terrible reputation throughout the state, the city that gets nothing done. Do I like hearing
that, no I do not, but it is true.
Lets build some turf fields for our youth, we will never run out of them, so lets support our most valuable resource.
Thank you,
Lorna Roberts
Eugene, Oregon 97405

4/14/2006
