Request for Information on Arson Fires <br /> Councilor Wooten asked staff to provide her with information on the status of <br /> the seven arson fires which had occurred in her ward. She stated she would <br /> like the information in an effort to allay some of the concerns of the resi- <br /> de n ts . <br /> H. Eugene Celebration News Conference <br /> Councilor Wooten invited the other councilors to attend the news conference <br /> scheduled for noon on August 8, 1985, at the Eugene Mall to announce the <br /> events of the Eugene Celebration. She said that entertainment was also sche- <br /> duled for the event. <br /> 1. Comments on 6th/7th Widening Project <br /> .. Councilor Wooten commended the Public Works Department and the contractors for <br /> their timely work on the widening project. However, she state d tha t she ha s <br /> begun to receive complaints regarding the construction and traffic spillover <br /> into neighborhood streets. She said she has requested the Traffic Division to <br /> study the possibility of signalization timing changes or other measures to <br /> alleviate those problems. <br /> J. Response to Councilor Ehrman Concerning Wading Pools <br /> Councilor Wooten stated that the neighborhoods would have to fund the supervi- <br /> sion of children in the wading pools. City Manager Micheal Gleason stated <br /> that the funding for lifeguards at the wading pools was cut from the budget <br /> three years before. He said that staff would prepare a report for Ms. Ehrman. <br /> K. Appreciation for City Council Support <br /> Mayor Obie said he appreciated the support of the City Council during the <br /> efforts to attract Van Duyn to Eugene, stating that their trust was a tremen- <br /> dous confidence-builder. He said the council took a leadership position in <br /> the development of the Metropolitan Partnership. He also complimented the <br /> work of the councilors in the Town Hall Meetings. <br /> L. Resolution Recognizing Eldon G. Schafer <br /> Mayor Obie proposed that the City Council adopt a resolution recognizing Eldon <br /> G. Shafer, former president of Lane Community College, for his work in the <br /> e community.
