Tree Protection Measures <br />1. The contractor shall employ the services of an arborist certified by the International <br />Society of Arboriculture. <br />2. The contractor shall not prune any tree within the right-of-way without prior approval by <br />the City. Any pruning shall be performed by an ISA Certified Arborist and shall comply <br />with the City's pruning standards (R -7.280-H 3). <br />3. The tree protection measures shown on the Tree Preservation Plan shall be implemented <br />as shown on that plan. Where drawings are different than tree protection notes, the <br />measures providing the greatest degree of tree protection shall be implemented during <br />construction. <br />4. Prior to beginning any construction activity, tree protection fencing shall be installed by <br />the contractor, and it shall be inspected and approved by the Urban Forester's Office. <br />Call the Urban Forester's Office at 541- 682-4800 to arrange for inspection, which will <br />take place within 48 hours. <br />Tree protection fencing shall be installed at the edge of the Critical Root Zone or as <br />shown on the approved Tree Preservation Plan or Construction Site Management Plan. <br />See City of Eugene Standard Drawing Tree Protection, LS 120. <br />Contractor shall maintain all tree protection fencing until completion of all construction <br />activities. <br />7. Within the Critical Root Zone the following prohibitions apply, unless otherwise <br />approved in the Tree Preservation Plan or the Construction Site Management Plan: <br />a. Grading, filling, trenching, compaction or other construction activity <br />b. Storage, disposal or placement of construction materials or equipment, operating <br />or storing construction machinery, driving or parking vehicles. <br />8. Prior to beginning any construction activity, the Project Arborist shall identify limbs of <br />trees to be preserved that may interfere with construction activity and equipment. The <br />Project Arborist shall recommend and supervise appropriate methods for protecting the <br />tree limbs, such as temporarily tying them up out of the way, or removing them as <br />approved by the Urban Forester. Pruning and removal of limbs of trees to be preserved <br />shall be completed by the Project Arborist, according to City standards. In no case shall <br />more than 20 percent of a tree's canopy be removed. (See R-7.280 for City Pruning <br />Standards). <br />Roots within the Critical Root Zone of trees shall be located and pruned as follows: <br />a) Roots encountered within the Critical Root Zone shall be cut using a saw, <br />
