is more practical for offices. Two could be brought together. Incorporate
greenery.
Drum could be emblematic, but building could be practical in places that are
less public.
Two lower buildings: simple, prismatic, if each were made in a single material,
then we would be disappointed. Those simple geometric forms rely on rhythmic
repetitions on façade that will make it interesting and inviting.
Dislike forms that do not reflect community. Hult Center reminds me of where I
live. A square box – no.
Regarding the aesthetics of façade, natural stone more Eugene than concrete.
But what is the practicality of maintenance: what is cost and efficiency of
cleaning windows? Do they open? Energy efficiency is important.
Race: we need to think about it and address it. Form can look like “rich white
guy”. It needs to be “common” and use ancient forms. That would be better than
ones that look like they came from Portland.
Input on Outdoor Spaces
th
Wayne Morse Plaza is only a block away. More emphasis on south side near 8.
Entrance good. Small plaza more appropriate. More emphasis on internal
courtyard. Get light into building.
What do you think about structure built at edge, but open space behind it?
Good.
We already have places that fulfill that function (plaza). Make sure it doesn’t pull
from other plazas.
I love the wigwam (placeholder shape for council Chamber.) This will become
center of our town. Your ideas are great. Wish you were from Eugene. People
are what it’s about.
We’ve lived in Eugene for long periods of our lives.
Would like to see open spaces where bikes arrive. Place where people can
gather and talk by bikes. Have space so you don’t need to climb around racks.
Need a way to get out of rain and chat for bikers.
Where is parking?
If our open space is on the south side, how about surface parking adjacent to it?
The city owns the valuable half block on the other side. Could make
th
landscaping incorporate 8 as a strong double-sided streetscape. Plaza could
extend across street, as opposed to plaza all in interior.
