4A4
(c) In the case of s~TStems of 150 gal~.ons or lesser capacity the installer
shall file a written notification with the Ohief of Fire Prevention indicating the
` date of each installation and. the location of the premises where such installation
has been made.
g0~ ODORIZING GASES. All compressed or lir~uefied gases shall be effectively
odorized by an approved agent of such character as to positively indicate the
presence of gas down to concentrations in air of not over one-fifth the lower
limit' of flammability. -
g0~ CONSTRUCTION OF CGNTAINERS.
(a) Cantainers for compressed or liquefied gases shall be constructed in
accordance +f~ith the Unfired. Pressure Vessel Code (except U2 to U10 and U1~) of the
American Society of Mechanical Engineers or shall comply with the Regulations of the
Interstate Commerce Commission: All containers sh~.ll bear a marking indite-ting that
they have been suitably tested.
(b) Containers shah be designed fora working pressure not less than the
vapor pressure of the stored product at 1C0° F. No container shall have a sP.ell or
head thickness less than 316 inch.
(c) Containers other than these conforming to the Interstate Commerce
Commission Regulaticns shall be marked ~~rith the design working pressure in pounds
per square inch, and no m?..terial of greater. vapor pressure at 100° F. than the
design working pressure shall be placed or kept therein.
(d) No liquid storage container shall exceed 30,000 gallons water capacity.
g~ LOCATION OF CGNTAINERS AND REGULATING VALVES.•
• (a) No storage container shall be located under or inside any building,
except that containers conforming to Interstate Commerce Commission Regulations and
used for +,~elding, flame cutting or other industrial a.~oplications may be located. in
buildings,
' (b) Storage containers shall be located with respect to nearest building or
group of buildings, or line of adjoining property +shich may be built upon, in acc-
orde.nce +,uith the follo~rir_g table, except that the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention
may exempt minor outbuildings and buildings devoted exclusively to gas manufacturing
and distributing operations, from this requirement:
R4inimum Distance
Water Capacity Per Container Under ground Above ground
Less than 125 gallons ....................10 feet.............. ..None
125 to 500 gallons .......................10 feet..................10 feet
500 to 1,200 gallons .....................25 feet..................25 feet
Over 1,200 gallons.......' . ...............50 feet..................50 feet
(c) First stage regulating equipment shall be located outside of buildings
other than those especially provided for the purpose.
(d) No readily ignitible material shall be permitted within 10 feet of any
container. `
g06 (a) Containers installed above ground shall be properly supported with
anchor=ge ~,:=hick will permit thermal expansion. Structural metal supports shall be
properly fireproofed, except that unprotected structural steel supports resting on
concrete pads or footings may be used under either of the folio+.aing conditions:
(1) The container has a water capacity of not over 600 gallons and_ the distance
from its bottom to the ground does not exceed 2~ inches; (2) The container is in
an isolated location and- the distance from its bottom to the ground does not exceed
5 feet.
(b) Containers buried underground shall be so placed that the. top of
container is below the est=blished frost line and in no case less than 2 feet
below bhe surface. Where necessary to prevent floating, containers shall be ..
securely anchored or weighted. hey shall be coated with a suitable protective
material to prevent corrosion. ''
(c) Containers once installed underground shall not be reinstalled above
ground unless they successfully withstand a hydrostatic retESt of-one and. one-half
times the design *.•ronking pressure, and show no evidence of detrimental corrosion.
