That no gravity tank exceed a capacity of six gallons. <br />° 2. That no glass bottle or metal tank of the vacumn feed type have a capacity <br />in excess of j gallons, and that not more than two such bottles or tanks be connected to <br />a single heating unit. <br />3• That metal tanks as referred to in paragraph 1 above '~e substantially <br />constructed and specifically approved for the purpose intended. <br />~. lryhat such systems be provided with suitable automatic safeguards to <br />prevent flooding of the burner. <br />5, That such gravity or vacuum tanks be looted not less than tyro feet from <br />the device in ~~rhich the burner if installed, provided the ter?per ature rise of the oil <br />supply at this distance is not excessive ~°rhen the burner is operated at full capacity. <br />That supply tanks be securely attached to non-combustible supports rigidly fastened to <br />the floor or ~rrall in such a manner as to minimize the possibility of mechanical injury <br />due to accidental contact, jarring or vibration; and, that such supply tanks be provided <br />urith means for determining the oil leve3:~which will not involve the possibility of. leakage <br />of oil. <br />org1 RELIEF VALVES FOR pUN1PS FOR ~tGIDTES AI~TD FUEL OIL E~,UIPR~TTS. <br />In systems. using pumps to supply auxil~:ary tanks or headers, Hrhich feed <br />internal combustion engines or fuel oil burners, provision shall be made to return <br />surplus oil to the supioly tank; any valve instal.1_ed. in the• line shall be of pressure <br />relief .type. ' <br />o1s~6 TANK TRUCKS. <br />A11. trucks used for the transportation of flammable liquids in bu7_k quantity <br />exceeding 100 g-lions shall be inspected by the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention, <br />a.nd unless certified by him as to their compliance with this ordinance they shall not be <br />operated on the streets of the City of Eugene; provided that this certification shall <br />not be required for trucks bearing the license or approval of the Interstate Commerce <br />Commission; or the license or. approval of the State Highway Department; or to trucks <br />transporting flammable lictuids in drums, cans and other containers of less than 60 <br />gallons individual capacity. <br />No truck transporting flammable liquids in bulk shall be left unattended on <br />any street, high~,vay, avenue or alley, Provided that this will not prevent a driver from <br />the necessary absence from the truck in connection Urith the delivery of his load, except <br />during actual discharge of the liquid t,~then some responsible person must be present at <br />the vehicle; nor shall it include stops for meals during the day. <br />Trucks containing flammable liquids may bP parked in bulk storage lots only. <br />They shall not be ~oarked or. garaged in building other than those specifically approved for <br />such storage by the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention. <br />Tanks shall. be constructed of open heartri or blue annealed steel, or other <br />suitable material of a strength equivalent to the following table: <br />A~grega.te Capacity <br />(Gallons) Shell Minimum Thickness of Steel, U.S. Standard Head <br />Up. t~o 600 1L gauge 1~-: gauge if biped, otherwise 12 gauge <br />600 to 1200 12 gauge 12 gauge if bilged, other~,~ide 10 gauge <br />Over 1200 10 gauge S gauge <br />Tanks, exceeding 1200 gallons in capacity, may be constructed ~rrith 12 gauge <br />shells and 7.0 gauge heads pr. ovided they are °sub-divided into compartments of 600 ga.l.lons <br />or .less and. a.r.e mounted on chassis equipped. tnrith low pressure balloon tires. <br />She11 andhead joints shall be gelded, rivited and welded, brazed or riveted and <br />brazed, riveted. and ca.l.ked, or m_a,de tight by some equally satisfactory process. <br />Each compartment of the completed tank shall be tested and proven tight at 5 <br />;oounds minimum pressure. Fill openings shall be ~+ inches ini:nmun diameter. <br />Tanks in excess of 60O gallons capacity shall be subdivided into com~oartments, <br />none of which shall exceed 600 gallons capacity. <br />Each tank compartment shall be provided <<~ith a suitable operating vent, and <br />in addition thereto venting facilities of such size and. capacity as,rill prevent rupture <br />of the tank from such internal pressures as ma.y be created by exposure fires. <br />~+~f <br /> <br />
