<br />PREVENTION OF DUST EXPLOSIONS. -

<br />i 1201. The Bureau of Fire Prevention is hereby authorized to prohibit further operat-
<br />ion in any grain elevator, flour, st?rch or feed mill or pliant pulverizing cocoa, sugar,
<br />! apices, coal, or other material producing flammable dusts where:.
<br />~ (a.) Elevator legs, spouts, hoppers and other conveyors are not dust tight.
<br />1 (b) Accumulations of dust are permitted in the interior of the building and a
<br />suitable dust removal system is not maintained.
<br />(c) Gpen flame or spark producing equipment is permitted in rooms containing
<br />~ dusty atmospheres.

<br />(d.) Pneumatic or magnetic separators are not maintained ahead of all grinding
<br />or pulverizing machines.
<br />(e} Operation is not under competent supervision.
<br />~i (f) Machinery and parts of the crushing, drying, pulverizing and conveying
<br />1 systems are not adequa.tPly grounded.

<br />x_301, The Chief of the Bureau of Fire Frevention shall be empovrered to restrict the
<br />~ storage, handling and sale of chemicals and chemical compounds trhich are of a. corrosive
<br />or poisonous nature, or which materially increase the fire hazard. ~r7here kept in containers
<br />i or _oackages usual to the retail trade, no general restriction shall a.pioly other than s
<br />~~ shelving shall be substantial and storage shall be neat .and orderly.
<br />1302. For storage of hazardous chemicals in warehouses, factories and ~Tholesale stores.
<br />t material of an oxidizing nature, such as nitrates, nitrites, chlorates, etc., shall be
<br />~ stored in dry places, and the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention may require a sep-
<br />arate room or building ~,rhen the aus,ntity stored constitutes a material hazard.

<br />1~ Bulk storage or storage of t7ro or more carboys of acid shall be outside in a yard
<br />or an enclosure, or properly protected on the roof of the building, or in a, special room
<br />i iprovi:ded ~sith a suitable container for the character of acid in case of breakage or leak.
<br />~ 1 0~. The Chief of the. Bureau of Fire Prevention nay require the separation, or isolation
<br />~ of any chemical which is of a nature vrhich in combination ~,rith other chemical or with
<br />organic matter may bring about afire or explosion or may liverate a hazardous or poison-
<br />~ pus gas.

<br />~ PART 1~.
<br />COP~IBUSTIBL'E FIBRES.
<br />-101. The term combustible fibres shall include cotton, sisal, henequen, ixtle, jute,
<br />hemp, to!~r, coca fibre, oakum, baled waster, kapok, hay, straw, Spanish.moss, paper and shred-
<br />ded paper, rags ar_d excelsior.
<br />- i~02. Loose fibres (not in suitably bales or pack2ges), whether housed or in the .open,
<br />shall not be stored ~sithin 100 feet of any building except as herein sp~ified.
<br />t 1h03. 1~Tot to exceed 100 cubic feet of loose combustible fibre may be kept in any buildig
<br />provided storage is in a metal-lined wooden bin, equipped with a self-closing metal-lined
<br />cover.
<br />_1~Oli. Quantities exceeding 100 ,cubic feet of loose combustible fibre, but not exceed-
<br />; ing 500 cubic feet, may be stored in rooms or compartments having floor, walls and ceiling
<br />constructed of material possessing sufficient fire resistance to 4rithstand a standard
<br />one-hour fire test. Openings into such rooms or compartments. shall be cut off from other
<br />parts of the building by approved fire doors.
<br />1P+0 Quantities exceeding 500 cubic feet of loose combustible fibre may be stored in
<br />approved vaults, constructed as follows:

<br />(a) Storage vaults shall preferably be located outside of buildings. If~located
<br />ixiside, safety vents to outside air shall be provided,
<br />- (b) t'~alls, floors, and ceilings shall be constructed of brick or other approved
<br />non-combustible material. Roofs of outside vaults shall likewise be of non-combustible m
<br />material but may be so constructed as to readily give*day in case of an internal explosion.
