<br />opinion of the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention, concurred in by the Chief of
<br />` the Fire Department, the hazard is not severe, provided that such places shall be
<br />equipped =,rith a, suitable dirt' sprinkler system urith afire department connection on
<br />{ the building front, or t~rith suitable cellar flooding holes properly distributed in the
<br />I first floor of the building, or with an approved standpipe system, ~,uith fire department
<br />connection or_ the street and control devices so located and arranged. that streams from
<br />~ nozzles on the standpipe can be-controlled from the outside of the building, a.nd also
<br />that all such planes shall be provided ~arith an approved automatic heat-actuated alarm
<br />system connected to a.n outside gong or to the central station of a supervising company.
<br />1902 Basements, cellars and. sub-cellars requiring the above protection are those
<br />ir_ connection with: Ra.g, paper or ,junk storage; shipping receiving or storage of
<br />furniture, dry goods, toys and. other articles involving nuantities of excelsior, moss
<br />;oayoer and like m=teria.ls; manufacture of articles containing or involving highly
<br />} combustible materials; storage of dangerous chemicals, acids or flammable liquids.
<br />1903 The Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention shah 'survey each mercantile and
<br />manufacturing establishment, each school, each place of assembly,.e-,ch hospital or. place
<br />of detention, and each apartment house or tenement building and shall designate suitable
<br />fire appliances in or. near boiler rooms, kitcher_s of restaurants, clubs and like estab-
<br />lishments, storage rooms involving considerable combustible material, .rooms in ~rrhich
<br />hazardous manufacturing processes are involved, garage sections, and other pi.z.ces of a
<br />generally hazardous nature. Such appliances may consist of automatic alarm syst"ems,
<br />automatic sprinklers, standpipe and hose fixed, s~heeled cr portable chemical extinguishers
<br />of a type suitably for the probable class of fire, or suitable asbestos bla.nkets',
<br />manual or automatic covers or the introduction of a.n inert gas. In specially hazardous
<br />processes or excessive storage appliances of more than one type may be required or
<br />special systems installed.
<br />190 Failure to install or provide the equipment oxd.ered by the Chief of the Bureau of
<br />Fire Prevention, a.nd. to maintain it in op erative_ccr_dition at all times, shall be con-
<br />sidered. a violation punishable as indicated hereina.ftPr in this ordinance. Repeated
<br />disregard of such orders shall constitute sufficient bases for the revoking cf any p~^rmit
<br />held.

<br />GAS APPLIANCES AI~iD CONATECTIOATS.
<br />~ 2001 SIItTT*OFF VALVE'S. An outsir..e valve shall be installed on every gas service pipe
<br />~ regardless of size that sup~o7.ies large stores or factories, or places of public assembly
<br />such as churches, theatres, motion picture theatres, schools, and hospitals, and on
<br />every service pipe 2 1~2 inches ar la.rger in diameter..

<br />!f 2002 Shut-off cocks and+valves shall be pl?ced in suitable stop or valve boxed man-
<br />! holes or vau7_ts, the covers of ~;=hich shall bear the name of the cam-pany to which it
<br />iii belongs and the valves if necessary tagged to properly identify their purpose.
<br />2003 Al ]_ gas burners §hall be p]. aced a.t ].east 3 feet belo~,, any *~roodwork or ceiling
<br />attached to trooden beams, unless the same is properly,protected by a shield, in T~rhich
<br />case the distance shall be net less than 18 ir_cries.
<br />200- No gas bracket on any lath. and pla.gter partition or wooc'work shall be less than
<br />5 inches in length measured from the buy°ner to -the pl=;s ter surface or oroodwork.
<br />200 Gas connections to stoves, heaters and other appliances shall be made by metal
<br />pipe or by approved metal tubing securely fastened in place, except that for devices
<br />~ which require a movable connection, approved, flexible tubing as s~aecified belo~t..= ma.y
<br />j be used provided there is no shut-off on the device.
<br />2©©5 It small be unla:~~ful for any person to use, sell, expose or offer for sale, or
<br />to install of fix, any tubular connection of fabric intended for any illuminating gas
<br />fixtures, stove, heater or lamp, or ot2~er gas appliances, unless such tube connection,
<br />hose or similar device sha.l]- be approved by the Chief'~ef the Bureau of Fire Prevention
<br />in accordance with the folloGring; specifications:
<br />(a) Gas tubing shall be made up in suitable lengths with end pieces securely
<br />a.tta.cr~ed by the manufacturer.
<br />(b) A1]. gas tu'~ing must be made up of a strong gastight metal core with rubber
<br />packing and covered with a layber of good quality rubber or other suitable gas-tight material
<br />and a braided. cloth covering. Such, layers or covering or. tubb~e~ to be put on over the
<br />met-J_ ccre in such a. ,ray that it ~~rill of itself form a gas-tight ~rrall.
<br />(c) Each .length of tubing sha].1 be labeled by the mannfacturer ?•rith a tag
<br />attached to the tubing or a marking on t2-.e end piece, ,or both. The. ins,crfiption shall
