PUBLIC TESTIMONY
FromEleanorHamel 08/22/2016
I attendedthe South Willamette neighborhood meeting which was informative and well
run. That is to say a good meeting, once participants used the microphone.
Thereareseveral thingsI'm not certain about. If I understood thenumbers correctly, upto
250 units are suggested with a 2.3 person occupancy. With that number inmind, there
couldbe at least 300 additional carsusing the streets. What parking will be provided and
what improvements in the infastructure ie: widening roads, is planned?
The city busservice is excellent and I use it frequently as I am a senior citizen. However,
there are many times a car is necessary. I also walk tothe shops but again driving is
unavoidable as there is a limit to what I cancarry home.Asmuch ascutting downon
driving is desired, we will always need a car.
Apartments built on treed hillsides seems strange given thepropensityof thesoil to slipin
parts of Eugene, especially if trees are removed. Level ground would make more sense as a
placefor largerstructures. There is some flat openspace next to the communitygardens.
The hills area is further from bus service andshops.
Thankyouforthe opportunity to put questionsbefore you. I am planning to attend the
Septembermeeting.
EleanorHamel
206 W 27thAve,Eugene
2
