PublicParticipationApproach <br />AwidevarietyofpublicparticipationmethodsarerequiredtoeffectivelyengageRiverRoadand <br />SantaClararesidentsintransitionplanningandfulfillgoalsandcommitments.Inthissense,no <br />particularmethodisbetterthananother,andthecombinedoutcomesfromallthevarious <br />techniqueswillproducethedesiredresults. <br />Thisapproachassuresthatthepublicparticipationprocessisnotonlymanageableandfeasible <br />withrespecttospecificpublicinvolvementgoals,butprovidesmultipleopportunitiesfor <br />residentstobecomeengagedaccordingtotheirownpreferences,interests,schedules,and <br />availability. <br />Aspartofourapproach,JulieFischer,formerco-chairoftheRiverRoad/SantaClaraUrban <br />ServicesCommittee,istheCommunityOutreachSpecialistwhoismanagingtheneighborhood <br />andcommunityoutreachprogramfortheTransitionTeam.Julieisatrainedcommunityplanner <br />andformerresidentofRiverRoad. <br />MethodsUsedtoDate <br />Todate,thesearethemethodsusedtoinform,consult,involve,andcollaboratewithRiverRoad <br />andSantaClararesidents: <br />StakeholderInterviewsandRoundtableMeeting <br />Attheinceptionoftheproject,theTransitionTeaminterviewedapproximately40stakeholders <br />inRiverRoadandSantaClara,andpreparedan IssuesandFindingsReport,documentingresults <br />oftheinterviews.Subsequently,theTransitionTeamhostedaRoundtableMeetingwiththese <br />stakeholderstoprovidefeedbackonaproposedworkplanandscheduleforthetransitionproject, <br />includingaproposalforacitizenadvisorycommittee. <br />RR/SCCitizenTaskForce <br />Atwelve-memberadvisorytaskforcehasbeenmeetingmonthlysinceFebruary2005.Thetask <br />forceconsistsofanequalnumberofstakeholderrepresentativesfrombothRiverRoadandSanta <br />Clara,andabalanceofcityandunincorporatedresidents.Currently,thegroupisconsidering <br />optionsandstrategiesthatultimatelymightserveasthebasisforpreparingatransitionplanfor <br />RiverRoadandSantaClara.Allmeetingsareopentothepublic,andopportunitiesareprovided <br />forpubliccommentatthebeginningofeachmeeting. <br />Website <br />Thewebsiteprovidesbackgroundandcurrentinformationonthe <br />transitionplanningprojectincludingdates,schedules,andmeetingnotesoftheRR/SCCitizen <br />TaskForcemeetings. <br />InterestedPartiesList <br />TheTransitionManagementTeammaintainsalistofover100interestedpartiesincluding <br />electedofficials,cityandcountystaff,specialdistrictproviders,communityorganization <br />advisoryboards,andinterestedcitizens.Theseindividualsreceivenotices,agendas,andmeeting <br />notesofRR/SCTaskForcemeetings. <br />2 <br /> <br />
