Can be heard. Look to see who’s missing. <br />Notice. Empowers all. Not just politically latter. Better for all of us. <br /> <br />Group of people with common interest and beliefs - work towards common goals. <br />Inclusiveness. Hold each other accountable. <br /> <br />Erase word tolerance. Insulting. Need to be respected. Accepted. Don’t want to worry <br />about my husband, son; put on a list. Targeted by Police. In workplace. Community <br />needs free work environment from hostility. Free at work. Major battle to win. Don’t <br />feel you need to quit or leave because you’re not white. <br /> <br />Dream everyone feels they can bring what is unique about them. <br /> <br />First thought - rainbows and unicorns. Been here 18 - 19 years. Raised two kids. <br />Frustrating. Want more people who look like me at work. Have City - more people of <br />color. More awareness from community members. Not just by being tolerant. Know to <br />be aware of what they say, do - see value in it. Like to see economic equity. Lot of <br />discrimination. Think sometimes community is separating. Celebrate around art, wine - <br />want more about culture. Want to see us be allies in this together. <br /> <br />Been here 30 years. People are getting better. Want more than not be racist. In addition, <br />people coming here with own biases. Have to reach out - to communicate better. <br /> <br />Thirty-seven years in community. Born here. Then knew all families of color - <br />recognized each other. Dream to have a place where our children aren’t looking over <br />their shoulders. Not wondering why they got bad grade or didn’t get picked. Diverse <br />workforce. People look like me aren’t always janitors or dish washers. All have equal <br />voice. <br /> <br />Anyone bring up what is near and dear to your heart. Heard several strands - equity, <br />value, diversity, dignity. Talk about what that means. Why are we here? Why we don’t <br />talk to each other. <br /> <br />Here because I want to do community work. Instilled in me as a young child - <br />community matters. Parents got involved, helped each other. Came from LA - didn’t <br />Communities of Color 25 July 12, 2006 <br />
