<br />Agree. Knew Hispanic young lady at restaurant. Sending her to clean house. Warned <br />her. Didn’t have legal status. Had to quit. <br /> <br />Do lot of gardening. Nurseries, Fred Meyer. Always people come up to me and feel I’m <br />retail help. <br /> <br />Careful to acknowledge what everyone is hearing. Like being pulled over for DWI <br />(Driving While Indian). When say that, hear I’ve been pulled over - ask if get ticket. <br />Happens to me 13 times with no ticket. Has to be acknowledged. <br /> <br />Fact of life. Something we deal with. Like being employed at City - some think I’m <br />there because of person of color. Disregard my hiring, my degree, my work. Taught to <br />wok twice as hard. Perpetuated at schools, work. Superiority there - how do you over <br />come it? <br /> <br />Want it to change for next generation. <br /> <br />Where I see some change - think beyond City of Eugene. City takes stand - this is where <br />we take stand. Like to see community-wide - with business, groups, government <br />agencies. Can start changing at City, but needs to happen on outside. Need to get word <br />out in different ways. <br /> <br />Need education. People define diversity in different ways. <br /> <br />Diversity - acknowledging and respecting differences across cultures. About us, genders <br />- treating people with respect. Doing right thing. Equity - using power and privilege to <br />gain equity. <br /> <br />Diversity - acceptance of people’s beliefs and ideologies. Treated same in workplace - <br />regardless of race or ideologies. <br /> <br />Diversity for everyone, all white males - still diverse - come from different backgrounds. <br />Different ideas. Way you process information. More than multi-cultural. People from <br />bigger cities different than people born in Eugene. Out of state more use to being with <br />people of color. Tension - think only AA, EEO. Each person is different. Respecting <br />that and valuing that. <br /> <br />stndrd <br />Hispanic - difference if 1, 2, 3 generation. Prejudice within group. <br />Agree with what other person said. Where I work - sixty people - only two people of <br />color. Use concept of differences - as diversity. Use that because don’t want to hire <br />person of color. Excuse. Use it to be limiting. <br />If those games, need to deal with Affirmative Action. <br /> <br />Comes down to managers that hire. <br /> <br />Need to develop a plan.
