<br /> The Fire and Water Committee, by Chairman Bond recommended the pu:rchase of
<br /> 250 feet of Peerless Fire Hose from the Eureka Fire Hose Division through R. A.
<br /> Babb Hardware Company at $1.20 per foot; and 250 feet of ~arathon Hose from the
<br /> B. F. Goodrich Rubber Company, through S. B. Finegan, at $1~20 per foot. Motion
<br /> was made and seconded to accept Mr. Bond's recommendation and the ayes and nays
<br /> were called. Councilmen voting aye 6, nay none, absent Hendershott and Reid.
<br />.' The Health Committee, by Chairman ZU(D.walt, suggested that as far as the city
<br /> is concerned in its relationship to taking care of the park where the comfort
<br /> station is located that this should be left entirely up to Lane County, and if
<br /> they wanted to increase the caretaker's salary that would be up to them.
<br /> Mr. Zumwalt reported that he had received a number of complaints of garbage
<br /> dumping, and he was checking up on them as fast as they were made.
<br /> The Recorder presented a letter from Mack Sherman asking for damages in the
<br /> amount of $24.00 to his Ford V-8 that was hit by the fire truck going to the fire
<br /> at the city barns on August 10, 1935. This was referred to the Judiciary
<br /> Committee and City Attorney.
<br /> At this time Councilman Hendershott appeared in Council.
<br /> A letter was read concerning some dogs belonging to Mrs. Day at 640 East 17th
<br /> Avenue, and the Recorder was instructed to notify the signers that if they would
<br />I sign a complaint the city would immediat~ly prosecute.
<br /> A letter from Blair T. Alderman asking for special permission to erect a
<br /> garage at 1833 Faarmount Boulevard, closer than, the required number of feet from
<br /> the property or street line, due to a high bank, was read and upon motion seconded
<br /> and carried Was granted.
<br /> A letter from Harry H. Johnson on the milk situation was read and ordered
<br /> held to be considered when the subject is again discussed.
<br /> A letter from Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Wiltshire, offering the city $250.00 cash
<br /> for Lot 4, Block 5, HO.llenbeck's Addition to Eugene, was referred to the
<br /> 1 Finance Committee.
<br /> Reports for the month of August from the City Engineer, Fire Department,
<br /> Police Department, and Public Library were presented and ordered filed. Also
<br /> a report from the Eugene Transient 'Bureau for the week of August 26th to 30th, was
<br /> ordered filed.
<br />.' An Ordinance granting a franchise to the Walters-Bushong Lumber Company, to
<br /> extend a blow pipe across High Street at the site of the company's plant"between
<br /> Fourth Avenue East and Fifth Avenue East, in the City of Eugene, was read the
<br /> first time and laid over, and the Recorder instructed to proceed with legal
<br /> advertising, upon receipt~ of letter from Walters-Bushong Lbr. Co. to pay said
<br /> costs.
<br /> City Attorney Calkins was instructed to write the Oregon Electric Company
<br /> a letter, asking that they do not use 5th Street for Parking their trains.
<br /> At this time Councilman Reid appeared in Council.
<br /> Request from the City Treasurer's Office for the use of Improvement Bond
<br /> Sinking Funds to pay Series A.G. Bonds by the date of September 15, 1935, and
<br /> until receipt from the sale of Refunding Improvement Bonds "G", was presented
<br />I and motion made and seconded to grant the request. The ayes and nays were called,
<br /> Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absent none.
<br /> The City Treasurer was authorized to call Series A. C. Bonds in the amount
<br /> of $130,523.69 as of October 15, 1935.
<br /> A letter was presented to the Council asking for the cancellation of the
<br /> liens against Lot 1, Block "A" Mayhew's Addition to Eugene, a result of a trade
<br /> consummated May 14, 1934. The Council ordered that this lien should be marked
<br /> paid and the property taken in exchange should be valued to include this $232.60,
<br /> plus ,interest.
