<br />At this ~ime Mr. McKy addressed the Council asking for permission to put
<br />in a gravel walk on the East side of Van Buren Street between 1st and 2nd
<br />Avenues, only temporarily. On motion made, seconded and carried this permission
<br />was granted, and the Recorder was instructed to write a letter to Mr. McKy asking
<br />that this be done immediately or as soon as possible, working with the City
<br />Engineer.
<br />
<br />An Ordinance licensing, taxing and regulating theatres, vaudevilles, moving
<br />picture shows, and other shows and entertainments' and exhibitions within the city
<br />of Eugene, was read the second time, and passed its third reading by title under
<br />suspension of the rule by the unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed
<br />upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 7,
<br />nay Carlson, absent none. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8460.

<br />An Ordinance to regulate the keeping and maintenance of animals, fowls and
<br />insects in the City of Eugene; providing for a license, and repealing all
<br />Ordinances in conflict herewith, and declaring an emergency, was read the second
<br />time and Councilman Harris moved that it be changed to $1.00 up to and including
<br />four hives, and lOst for each additional hive, and this motion was lost. The same
<br />was then amended as follows~ $1.00 annual license fee up to and inc~uding 1
<br />dozen fowls or birds and $1.00 for the first 10 hives of bees and lot for each
<br />additional hive. It was then read the third time" including the amendments, and
<br />placed upon its final passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting
<br />aye 8, nay none, absent none. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8461.

<br />A Resolution was presented concerning the Eugene Gleemen,and on motion duly
<br />seconded and carried, was unanimously adopted.

<br />RESOLUTION
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, The Eugene Gleemen are now singing their tenth J~bilee
<br />Concert Sesson, and
<br />
<br />I
<br />
<br />WHEREES, under the continued able and talented leadership of John
<br />Stark Evans, the Gleemen will sing their tenth annual winter concert
<br />at McArthur Court in Eugene, February 4th, 1936, and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the Honorable Mayor, and this, the City Council of Eugene
<br />recognize the pure civic spirit and nature of the Gleemen, that the
<br />Gleemen constitute an artistic and effective means of telling the
<br />world of the cultural advantages of living in Eugene, and '
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the officers of the Gleemen; Dr. Charles E. Hunt, President;
<br />Wayne Akers, Vice-president; George H. Miller, Secretary; Percy Brown,
<br />Treasurer; Accompanist, Cora Moore Frey; the several charter members;
<br />other especially active members; and the personnel of the Gleemen,
<br />business and professional men of the city, have long and freely given
<br />of their time, energies and musical abilities,
<br />
<br />.

<br />THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; that the Honorable Mayor and this the City
<br />Council of Eugene cause the attention of all citizens to be focussed
<br />upon the high value of the Gleemen as a community asset; that the
<br />continued support of the people be tendered to this worthy endeavor,
<br />the true value of which cannot be measured in mere dollars; that the
<br />Clerk of this Council enter this resolution upon the minute books and
<br />tender copies hereof ~o the Gleemen and the press for publication,
<br />in public acknowledgement of thanks and as slight tribute to the
<br />Gleemen and their director as Singing Ambassadors of Good Will.

<br />An Ordinance permitting and authorizing the erection and construction of
<br />memorial monuments and/or buildings, pioneer memorials or pioneer museums pursuant
<br />to an Act'of' the Specaal Session of ~he 1935 Legislature, being Senate Bill No.
<br />60, was read the first time and held for further consideration.
<br />
<br />A commun~cation from the United States Department of Agriculture Weather
<br />Bureau concerning the maintenance of their quarters at the airport, was presented
<br />and referred to the Judiciary Committee and City Attorney.

<br />A Resolution concerning the entering into a contract lease between the United
<br />Air Lines Transport Corporation and the City of Eugene, was presented and referred
<br />to the Judiciary Committee and City Attorney. It was pointed out at this time
<br />that the $10.00 per month that was offered for the quarters was very inadequate",
<br />and it was also pointed out by Mr. Sanders that the Weathe~ Bureau paid rent in
<br />other places and he could see no reason why they shouldr:not pay here. Councilman
<br />Carlson recommended that this be gone into quite thoroughly.
