The Health Com- <br />17 mittee is to see the court about having this removed. <br />/' <br />It was reported that there was an old shack located directly across the aIle <br />at 154 West 20th and the property belongs to the city. 1'he Health Commi ttee was <br />18 given power to act in this case~ <br />/ <br />The Sewer Committee was granted a period of two weeks in which to consider t e <br />request of the U.S.P.O~ for' the elevation of a new sewer of' not less than 10 inches <br />in diameter to be constructed in the alley and to extend to the southerly side of <br />19 the new Post Office site, at no expense to the United States~ <br />/ . <br />The rBquest of C. V~lentine Boyer for assignment of a patrolman to conduct <br />traffic in the district of the university during certain hours of the day was held <br />20 by the Police Committee for study for another two weeks. <br />/ <br />The request of C. A. Carlson to connect with the city sewer to serve Lots 5, <br />6, and 7, Block 1, Edblom's Addition, was held by the Sewer Committee for another <br />21 two weeks. <br />/' <br />At this time Mayor Large called on Mr. Carlto~, an employee of Booth-Kelly <br />Lumber Company to put his problem before the counci 1. Mr. Carl ton a.ddressed the <br />council stating that he wanted to build a home on Alder Street but that because I <br />his firm was an I~E.U. plant the local Central Labor Counc~l had decided to picket . <br />him. His contract is with independent contractors. He later read a section of his <br />call for bids which called jor "ope~ shop" on the job. Mr. Carlton addressed the - <br />council at great length on the picket situation and asked that som~thing be done~ <br />Mr. Allen, attorney representing Ralph & Stanley, presented a petition bearing 88 <br />signatures in favor of an anti-picketing ordinance. Mr. Fo G. Reese addressed the <br />council on behalf of the ordinance and asked that action be taken now. The Mayor sated <br />that the petition and ordinance would be left with the Jud:.ciary Committee to repor <br />22 on at the next meeting. <br />( <br />Communication from the Board of Appeals granting pel'mission to the Gilmore <br />Oil Company to erect a roof over their grease pit at 282 Van Buren Street, was ap- <br />23 proved by the council. <br />/ <br />Communication from the Civil Service Commission namIng for permanent ap- <br />pointment those individuals who had successfully passed the performance examination <br />required by Civil Service was approved by the council.
