Wentworth, Treasurer 186'.72 <br /> The Fire and Water Committee recommended the issuance of bills to the <br /> following parties to whom ,services had been rendered by the Fire Department on out- <br /> of-town calls: Buster Love RFD #1, Eugene, $6.00; Dunn Water District, 28th and <br /> Willamette, $3.00; Clem Howell, Willagillespie, RFD #2, $14.00; Herb Owen, $12.00; <br /> 22 Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was duly approve . <br /> / <br /> At this.time a lengthy discussion was had by the Mayor and Council <br /> concerni~g the Fire Department making out-of-town calls. The Recorder read a <br /> statement from a Portland newspaper concerning the situation as it existed there. <br /> Some d~uncilmen expressed the opinion that the city should not make any more calls <br /> beyong the city limits. Councilman Hanns ,. Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee <br /> stated that there is an attempt being made to formulate fire districts to which <br /> the Fire Department could make calls upon their request by reason of the fact that <br /> there would be a small millage to compensate the department for that service." The <br /> matter was left in the hands of the Committee and they are to complete their re- <br /> commendation as to how the matter should be handled within a sixty day period of <br /> 23 time. <br /> / Councilman Page, Chairman ofothe Park Committee, stated that the I <br /> large maple tree located on the parking immediately in front of the buildingat <br /> 1139 Willamette Street is ready for removal and asked council, authorization to pra- <br /> ceed with the same. City Attorney Calkins stated that regular condemnation proceed <br /> ings had been taken by the Park Board and there being no appeals or remonstrances, <br /> and the Park Board agreeing that it should'be removed, it was all within the power <br /> 24 of the Board to remove the same without any action on the part of the council. <br /> / <br /> Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, recommended the <br /> transfer of a retail beer Class C License from W R Wallace, former owner of Rainbow I <br /> Restaurant, to George F. Schaefers, to operate the Eugene Recreation at 10th and <br /> Willamette Streets. Upon motion made and seconded, this recommendation was duly <br /> I approved. <br /> Another complaint of a hobo camp at the end of East Eighth was re- <br /> 26 ferred to the police. . . <br /> / . <br /> Councilman Hanns pointed out the deplorable truck traffic situation <br /> 27 in Eugene and the Chief of Police was instructed to bear down on truck drivers. <br /> I <br /> ;A Chief of Police Bergm~n stated that he had appointed P.
