<br /> Councilman Farrington recow~ended that the petition requesting condemnati n
<br /> of a barn located on the rear of Lot 4, Block 3, Kelsay's Addition or more commonly
<br /> known as 1572 Ferry Street and owned by Dorilla Somers, be sustained. The Recorder
<br /> read the communication of Mr. S.R. Mosher, Building Inspector, wherein he also re-
<br /> commended condemnation of said barn. Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the
<br /> City Attorney was instructed to proceed with the condemnation of said barn and it
<br /> ?3 was so ordered.
<br /> Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, recommended that the
<br /> request for installation of stop streets on Agate Street at 21st, 22, and 23rd, be
<br /> 14 denied. Upon motion made and seconded, this recommendation was duly approved.

<br /> Mr. Bond requested further time to study the other three petitions re-
<br /> questing the control of excessive speeding on the North Pacific Highway, South Wil-
<br /> 15 lamette Street, and Franklin Boulevard. This was granted.

<br /> Mayor Large requested that the Police Committee study the suggestion of
<br /> 16 making 10th and Olive Streets a "No U Turn" intersection and it was so ordered.

<br /> Report of accountant P. W. Brown for the quarter ending September, 1938,
<br /> was presented. Mr. Brown reported that the records are being well kept and are in
<br /> 18 good condition. The report was herewith ordered placed on file.

<br /> Communication from W. B. Dillarq, County Clerk, refusing the city's ap-
<br /> plication to purchase property located at 261 Jefferson due to the fact that said
<br /> property has been occupied by a person drawing an Old Age Pension, was presented an
<br /> 19 referred to the Judiciary Committee and City Attorney for study.

<br /> Communication from H. L. Edmunds, president of the Eugene National Compan ,
<br /> wherein they offer to accept $1950.00 rather than the $2000 balance remaining unpaid,
<br /> provided the city will make such payment not later than December 31, 1938. The
<br /> 20 matter was held for further consideration.

<br /> Claim of Lilly Steen, presented through her attorney Reese Wingard, was
<br /> presented. It was revealed that the claimant had stepped.into a trench dug across
<br /> the pedestrian lane on the east side of Willamette Street at the corner of 8th and
<br /> Willamette Streets and injured as a result thereof. She claims $500.00 general
<br /> damages and special damages in the amount of ~p50.00. The matter was referred to the
<br /> 21 Judiciary Committee and City Attorney for study.

<br /> The council unanimously voted to refund Mrs. L. J. Nurre the $2.00 buildin
<br /> permit grant~d her on November 21st and which she later discovered she would be un-
<br /> 22 able to use.

<br /> The report of the Pub~lc Library for the month of October was presented an
<br /> 23 ordered placed on file.
<br /> The Finance Committee was asked to consider the bids submitted by the foI- I
<br /> lowing accountants for audit of the city books for. the year 1939: C. A. Horton, $300;
<br /> P. W. Brown, $350; Robert Lemon, $350; George A. Stock, $420. It was revealed that
<br /> Mr. Horton will render a semi-annual report, whereas Messrs. Brown and Lemon will
<br /> 24 submit their reports on a 'quarterly basis.

<br /> Upon motion mad~ ~nd seconded, the Recorder was instructed to include with
<br /> the December bills the $500.00 statement submitted by the League of Oregon Cities
<br /> for codification of the city ordinances. The ayes and nays were called; councilmen
