<br /> I Councilman Hanns, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee, recommended
<br /> the installation of a street light at the intersection of Emerald and Inavale Street
<br /> and a street light installation at the intersection of 5th and Filmore Streets.
<br /> Upon motion made and seconded the recommendation of the committee was unanimously
<br /> 16v.iapproved.
<br /> The Fire and Water Committee reported that the street lights at the folIo -
<br /> ing intersections were in a poor condition: 7th & Madison, 8th & Polk, 15th &
<br /> Washington, 3rd & Pearl, 21st & Agate, 21st & Emerald, 23rd & Emerald, 19th & Mill,
<br /> Broadway & Polk and 15th & Villard and the committee recommended that the lights be
<br /> . replaced by larger lights or have the lights cleaned. The committee also reported
<br /> that the street lights were burned out at the following intersections: 20th & Agate,
<br /> 21st & Alder, 21st & Lincoln, and 17th & Patterson. The Recorder was instructed to
<br /> notify the Eugene Water Board of these intersections and ask them to make proper
<br /> repairs. It was further reported that it might be necessary to install a light at
<br /> the northwest corner of Jefferson coming into 13th Street from the north. After a
<br /> short discussion the Recorder was instructed to contact the Eugene Water Board and
<br /> ask them for a rep~t concerning the possibility of placing a light at this inter-
<br /> 17v: sec tion.,
<br /> Councilman Hanns recommended the investigation o-f a portable boiler that
<br /> is being sold to garages and servicex stations. It was his understanding that the
<br /> City of Portland prohibited such an installation because it increased the Fire
<br /> Insurance rates to adjacent properties. After a short discussion the City Recorder
<br /> was requested to write to the City of Portland regarding their reaction to the in-
<br /> I stallation of the boiler, and W. A.. Nusbaum, Fire Chief requested to check on
<br /> garages and service stations, making a report on all such proposed installations
<br /> 18~and it was so ordered.
<br /> With regard to the condemnation proceedings of the Frasie~ p~operty,
<br /> City Attorney Calkins stated that he had contacted Mr. H. VI. Lombard, -A ttorney
<br /> 19J for the Frasier property, and also Miss Jennie Lee Frasier and the Frasiers had
<br /> agreed to remove the building immediately.
<br /> The question was brought up concerning the congested traffic situation
<br /> on Willamette Street adjacent to the new football field when the field is in use,
<br /> 20) and the Chief of Police reported that the School Board .was working out a solution
<br /> to this problem.
<br /> Communication was presented from the Rostein Realty Company asking the
<br /> council to open the road in Hendrick's Park which has been graded and gravelled
<br /> to his south property line, in order that he might connect his scenic Drive, known
<br /> as Skyline Boulevard, with the drive through the Park. Mr. Rostein personally
<br /> appeared before the council supporting this request, After a discussion, the matter
<br /> was referred to the Park Committee with a request that they study the situation and
<br /> 21 make a report at the next council meeting.
<br /> Communication was presented from I. G. Kjosness asking that the
<br /> following sidewalks be included in the WPA Sidewalk Program:
<br /> A.. The west ,side of University Street between 22nd & 25th Avenues
<br /> I B. The east side of Miami Lane between 24th and 25th Avenues
<br /> C. The east side of Potter Street between 23rd and 25th Avenues.
<br /> D. The west side of Potter Street between 24th & 25th Avenues
<br /> E. The west side of Harris Street between 24th & 25th. >
<br /> I The matter wasreferred to the City Engineer for investigation and a ~equest that he
<br /> 22 report back at the next council meeting.
<br /> Communication was presented from Hugh H. Earle, giving a descriptive
<br /> I report of the inspection survey in Eugene completed early in the summer. The
<br /> report was referred to the Fire and Water Committee with a request that they report
<br /> 23Jat the next council meeting.
<br /> Communication was presented from Bertha M. Furrow, presenting a sewerage
<br /> claim in the amount of $7.00 and asked the City to take eare of the same. The matte
<br /> was referr.ed to the Sewer Committee with a request that they report at the council
<br /> 2,4 meeting October 23.
<br /> The Board of Appeals communication presented a request received from
<br /> Charles Coral Holcomb asking for a permit to use an unfinished basement on the east
<br /> side of Lawrence Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues for the purpose of raising
<br /> .....
