The meeting was ca11ed to order <br />.and it was the recommendation of the Street Committee that the bidoof Scobert <br />Building Material Company be accepted for the purchase of necessary cement for the <br />bid price of $3.00 per barrell (paper sacks) and the bid of the Eugene Sand and <br />Gravel Company be accepted for sand and gravel at the price of $1.25 per cu yd <br />for concrete sand and..75 cents per cu yd for concrete gravel. Upon 'motion made <br />and seconded the recommendation was unanimously approved. Other bids presented <br />were from Lane Gravel Company (1.15 per cu yd for concrete Sand and .65 per cu yd <br />for concrete Gravel); Springfield Building Supply Co. ($3.15 and $2.95 per bbl for <br />oement in paper bags and 6,000 bbls in delivery lots of not less than 60 bbls on <br />37~one order, $17625.00); and Beaver Portland Cement Co. ($2.87 per bbl for cement) <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Communication was presented from Jame's A. Rodman asking permiss ion to oonver <br />his residence at 2288 Alder Street into an 'apartment house. The request was <br />381 unanimously approved. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from the Board of Appeals presenting the request <br />from E. H. Hall and Estella Hall asking for a "set-back" of twenty-five feet fran <br />the sidewalk on the east side of Fair.mount Boulevard between Seventtenth and Nine- <br />teenth Avenues. As the Board' recommends that this request be granted, motion was <br />59,./ made and seconded unanimously approv-ing the recommendation. ' . <br /> <br />The communication also presented the request from Hargreaves & Sons asking <br />to be allowed a ten foot "set-back" for a six-apartment house for John H. Lewis <br />on the lot at the southwest corner.of the intersection of Patterson Street and <br />Twelfth Avenue. The Board recommends that they, be reqired to observe a fifteen <br />foot "set-back" and motion was made and seconded unanimously approving the recommend _ <br />4~ tion of the Board of Appeals. <br /> <br />A request was receiy.ed'from D. F. Mains asking for a waiver of the "set-back <br />on Seventeenth Avenue West at Lincoln Street. The Board recommends that he be grant <br />a fourteen foot "set-back" from the front of his poroh to the stree~ property line <br />41"/and motion was made and seconded apprOVing the recommendation of the Board of Appeal. <br /> <br />A request was received from Mrs; Myrtle M. MCAlpin aSking for a special per <br />to erect a duplex residence on Lot 4, Block 2, Walnut Par~ Addition, located on <br />Jefferson Street between Thirteenth and the Amazon. This lot is outside the R-2 Zon , <br />but the Board recommends that the request be granted. Motion was made and seconded <br />42 ~ unanimously approving the recommendation of the Board of AplE als. <br /> <br />A request was received from Oscar Hanson for a permit to build an Apartment <br />House on Lot 7, Block 2, Hendrick's Addition, located at Fourteenth Avenue and <br />'Lawrence Street. The Board of Appeals would recommend that he be granted a permit <br />for two duplexes only and motion was made and seconded unanimously approving the <br />45r recommendation of the Board. <br /> <br />A request was received from John L. Reynolds, in behalf of H. L. Edmunds; <br />asking for the privilege of installing clear plate glass in a -metal frame in the <br />east wall of a proposed building addition adjoining on the west of 'the Safeway Store <br />property at Thirteenth and Willamette Streets. The Board reoommends that they be <br />required to use metal sash and wire glass and motion was made and seconded unanimous <br />44v approving the recommendation of the Board. <br /> <br />Communication was presented from James W. Mott, Oregon Congressman, stating <br />that the application of the City of Eugene for an allotment of $53,129 to construct <br />and reconstruct sidewalks and curbs had been approved by ~he Work Projects Administra <br />45v'ltion on April 18, 1940. The communication was ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />. C<ilmmunication was presented from S. R. Mosher, 'Building Inspector, stating <br />that 'on 'the afternoon of April 30th, he had been accompanied by Mr. H. J.C.ox, -membe <br />bfthe City Council; Mr. S. M. Calkins, <City Attorney; and Wm. Nusbaum, Fire Chief, <br />~nd they visited the building located at 189, 191, and 197 Eighth Avenue West whioh <br />had been damaged by fire on the 28th of April. ,As the building is now in a hazardous <br />bondition and is not worth the amount of money required to repair the roof, it is <br />~ecommended that the structure with its attached sheds be condemned. Motion was made <br />and seconded approving the recommendation and the City Attorney was instructed to <br />46 ~prepare necessary condemnation p~pers. . <br /> <br />~~mmunication was presented from the Union Central Life Insurance Company <br />advising the ,city that warrants #52028 in the amount of $64.01 and warrant #52327 in <br />the amount of $35.21, had been accepted as payment of the amounts tendered in full <br />settlement of the adjustment of an excess assessment covering property known as 290 <br /> <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br /> <br />~ <br />
