Shumway obtained a permit to erect a house at 370 Fifth Avenue West. <br /> ~fter the house was under construction, it was discovered that it di~ot comply <br /> rith the Code and th~ work was stopped. Mr. Shumway is asking to be allowed to <br /> complete the house. The Board recommends that she be granted <br /> r special permit to erect the duplexes provided she builds them on the east end of <br /> 28--iher property and the counc il unanimously approved the recommendation.. <br /> I Request was received from Harry Collins for a permit to erect a garage at <br /> ~5 N. Jefferson Street, waiVing the "set-back" on Cheshire Avenue. His request is <br /> !for a four foot "set-back". The Board of Appeals is holding this <br /> ( 3l~~equest for further information. <br /> II . Request was received from Ivan Ware asking for a permit to erect a new <br /> ~ouse on Lot 11, Alpha Addition, with a "set-back" of ten feet. The Board recommends <br /> fhat the request be granted and upon motion the recommendation of the Board was <br /> 32' nanimously approved. <br /> I A statement of sewerage charges billed and oollected for the month of June, <br /> i940 was presented from the Eugene Water Board and ordered placed on file. Report <br /> 33'from the Eugene Library was presented for the month of June and ordered placed on fil . <br /> 1 Speoial request for permission to store 4000 gallons of gasoline in the under <br /> . round storage tanks at their proposed new service station at 11th and Willamette <br /> Streets was presented from ~ 'Union Oil Company. This is 500 gallons over the <br /> Waximum allowed by the city~an~otion was made, seconded, and unanimously approved <br /> 34'that the request be granted. <br /> II The following curb cut applications were presented: No. _766' for Edward J. <br /> pillespie~ No. 768 for J. O. Eanes; No. 769 for Owen A. Thompson; No. 770 for H. A. <br /> I . v v ,......, <br /> I ~oore;~No. 772 for Roald Hanson; No. 773 for Ed Plant and No. 774 for T. H. Garrett. <br /> ~he City Engineer recommended that the foregoing applications be granted and motion <br /> ras made and seconded approving the recommendation. An application was presented <br /> from the Towne MarketVat 166 East 11th for a 12 foot curb cut (No. 765) and it was th <br /> ~ecommendation of the City Engineer that this cut be denied because it is a traffic <br /> hazard. Councilman Reid stated he felt the cut should be approved and referred to <br /> ~he Firestone station having a curb cut almost half a block in length. Engineer <br /> Clubb said that if the cut were granted it would very definitely cause a traffic <br /> hazard in entering and leaving across the sidewalk and the sharp turns necessary <br /> I ~o get between moving vehicles. It was the consensus opinion of the council that <br /> ~he curb cuts should be decreased instead of increased. Upon motion made and <br /> ~econded the recommendation of the City Engineer to deny the cut was unanimously <br /> ~ppr6ved. Curb cut applications were presented from the Union Oil Company No. 771, <br /> ~nd the Texas Company/No. 767, with the recommendation that the cuts be referred <br /> fO the Street Committee and the City Engineer with power to act.
