<br /> ing the merits of three respective machines. Councilman Bond seconded Councilman

<br /> to stand behind the recommendation of the Street Committee. '1'he ayes and nays were
<br /> called, councilmen voting aye: Reid, nond and Farrington; nay: Koppe, ~arette,

<br /> motion to accept the recommendation of the 0treet vommittee and accept the bid on
<br /> the Elgin, Jr. The motion was seconded by Councilman narette, and placed ~pon
<br /> roll call. Councilmen voting aye: bond, Koppe, narette, and Brovmson; nay: Reid,

<br /> Mayor Large declared a recess to give members of the council opportunity to study
<br /> various bids. The council was called to order by Mayor Large. Councilman Reid made
<br /> a motion seconded by Councilman Bond, that the offer of A. C. Haag & Company be
<br /> accepted. The motion was placed upon roll call, councilmen voting aye: Reid,
<br /> Hond, Farrington, Koppe, barette, Stewart, and Brownson; nay: none; absent: Carlson.

<br /> Mrs. Elsie Erlandson was present at the council m~eting and made a continue
<br /> plea for the council to grant the package store liquor license at the Lawrence
<br /> Street Grocery. Counciln~n Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, stated that I
<br /> if this license was issued it would be granting a new license and the council V\'aS
<br /> opposed to that practice. vouncilman .it'arrington upheld Councilman ~ond' s statement.
<br /> , Councilman ~ond stated that if Mrs. Erlandson would get a written statement from Mr.
<br /> Wilson to the effect that he was no longer interested in the permit and the transfe
<br /> of the license to Mrs. Erlandson v~s satisfactory, he would recommend transfer
<br /> of the same. Councilman Koppe felt that this license should be granted to Mrs.
<br /> Erlandson. Mrs. Erlandson was then told to see if she could secure the written
<br /> 9 statement from Mr. Wilson.
<br /> Councilman Farrington, Chairman of the .it'inance Committee, presented the
<br /> property offers beginning with the offer of Roy B. Wilcox, $900; $100 down and
<br /> the balance at $15.00 per month plus interest at 6% for Lots 1, 2, and 3,
<br /> block 12, Hollenbeck Additrnon (Southeast corner of 18th Avenue and Washington
<br /> Street). The Finance Committee recommended a counter offer of $1190 and the
<br /> ICY council unanimously approved the recooonendation.
<br /> The offer of Cordelia Evans for John Tiffany, client, $500 cash, for Lot 14,
<br /> Block 30, Driverton Addition (110 feet East of the Southeast corner of 22nd Avenue
<br /> and Hilyard Street) was presented, with a recommendation that a counter offer of
<br /> $575 be extended. Motion was made and seconded unanimously approving the recommend -
<br /> 11'- tion.
<br /> Councilman Stewart, Chairman of the .it'ire and Water Commi ttee, made a
<br /> request for authori ty to purchase six more Correy hydrants and valves for the .it'ire
<br /> Department; the same to be paid for from the regular budget as far as it goes, I
<br /> and the balance to be paid from the Emergency l"und. Upon motion made and seconded
<br /> l2J this was unanimously approved.
<br /> As to charges for industrial plants outside the vity of Eugene, the
<br /> committee requested an additional two weeks time for consideration. ~he request
<br /> 13 was granted.
<br /> It was reported that the College Crest District would vote on their proposed
<br /> fire district on January 3. They have a copy of the contract between the City of I
<br /> 14J.r"Eugene and the Bethel District to use as a pattern.
<br /> Counpilman Brownson, Chairman of the Health Committee, stated that an estima
<br /> e
<br /> for the installation of light standards in front of the vomfort Station was $170
<br /> but he had no recommendation to make in the matter because he was not familiar with
<br /> the situation. The co~~ittee was granted another two weeks time to further investi-
<br /> 15~ gate the matter.

<br /> Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, recommended approving
<br /> the renewal applications for liquor licenses at the Star Club, 66) Willamette,
<br /> and Percy's Place, 89 West 8th Street. Motion was made and seconded unanimously
<br /> 16 approving the recommendation of the committee.
