There was considerable discussion by various council <br />members regarding this matter and finally upon recommendation of the Gity Attorney, <br />~ the Recorder's Office was instructed to send out registered letters to the various <br />~ industrial plants outside the city limits notifying them of the council's recant <br />.~ action. The Fire and Water Committee was instructed to furnish as much of a list <br />as they could and the Recorder's Office was also instructed to get in touch with Mr. <br />Cox of the Will~lette Valley Lumbermen's Association and get thepames of the lumber <br />firms close to Eugene. Below is a copy of the letter and a list of the various <br />3Z firms to whom the letter is being sent. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(copy of letter) <br /> <br />At the Council meeting held Monday evening, April 14th, <br />the Council instructed the City Recorder's Office to call your <br />attention to the matter of Fire Protection. The Council has <br />agreed that no further fire protection can be furniahed outside <br />of the city limits of Eugene, except where Fire Districts have <br />been organized or where certain conditions are complied- with <br />according to an advertisement carried in the Eugene Daily News of A <br />April 25th, and in the Register Guard of April 26th, copy of which <br />is enclosed. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Council feels that most of the industrial plants know of <br />the conditions outlined by the City and we hope that you will make <br />arrantements at once to come under this protection. <br /> <br />Until you have made arrangBments with the City of Eugene, you have <br />no fire protection from the Eugene Fire Department. <br /> <br /> <br />Yours very ~ <br /> <br /><I~ <br />J III leI s <br />ity Recorder Pro-Tem <br /> <br />(publication notice which was <br />enclosed with the letter.) <br /> <br />NOTICE <br />TO INDUSTRIES OUTSIDE EUGEl\1E CITY LIMITS <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The City of Eugene will now provide FIRE PROTECTION under the <br />following conditions: <br /> <br />WIiEN THE ASSESSED valuation of your plant is sufficient that <br />2-1/2 mills returns an amount greater than ~100, you will 'receive <br />fire protection by the Eugene Fire Department for the year upon <br />the payment of the base charge of 2-1/2 mills not later than <br />January 10th and submission of a signed statement, duly attested <br />as to the assessed valuation. <br /> <br />WHEI'J THE ASSESSED valuation is NOT sufficient tha t 2-1/2 mills <br />will return ~~100, you "viII be ent i tl ed during the year to one <br />service by the Eugene Fire Department, not to exceed five hours, upon <br />payment of $100 before January 16th.
