The motion was declared carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />.~ <br />....:j <br /> <br />........ <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene, that <br /> <br />vVHEREAS, the Eugene Pageant Association is engaged in the <br />production of a pageant in Eugene in conformity with a practice that <br />has been followed sixteen years, and <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the COWmon Council deems the pageant and the <br />work of the Pageant Association to be a matter of public interest <br />and concern and of very great advantage to the City of Eugene, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is necessary in order to properly support and <br />finance the Pageant Association and its projects that further <br />privileges be accorded to the association, <br /> <br />It is therefore resolved that there is awarded to the <br />Pageant Association the right and privilege to use the Francis <br />Willard School grounds for any concessions, rights or privileges <br />that the Pageant Association deems wise without any further or <br />other license or permit from the City Council and the m\ard of <br />any concession or position upon said grounds by the Pageant <br />Association shall be a sufficient authority for the person to <br />whom it is granted to make use of the grounds for <br />the week from July 20th to July 26th, 1941, inclusive, and <br /> <br />It is further resolved that the provisions of any ordinances <br />contrary to the use contemplated by the Pageant Association are <br />hereby waived for the period named and the Pageant Association <br />is given full and complete control of the area for the term. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington reported the Finance Committee had met with the <br />school board committee last Tuesday and Chancellor Hunter of the University <br />~f Oregon was present. The meeting was in regard to the tract on the south side of <br />~9th Street. It developed that the school board had enlarged their program and now <br />~ished to occupy all of the territory on the South side of 19th Street between <br />\ INillamette and Hilyard. Councilman Farrington reported there was no decision arrived <br />43 at and further meetings would have to be held. <br /> <br />I . Reports for the month of March were presented from the Polic~ Department, <br />~he City Engineer's Office, and the Police Matron's Office. A statement of <br />pement sidewalk-repairs was presented from the City Engineer's Office and monthly <br />,reports covering the months of January, February, and March were presented from the <br />43-A Eugene Fire'Department. All reports were ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />II Requests for a second-hand dealers license at the People's Exchange at 613 <br />~illamette and The Second Hand Store at 56 West Sixth Street, were presented and <br />44'!icenses granted. <br /> <br />I Petition was presented asking the council to have installed a fire hydrant <br />\ ~t the intersection of Harris Street and Harris Place. The matter was referred to <br />45 the Fire and Water Committee. <br /> <br />I Petition was presented requestij1g the installation of a street light at the <br />, forner of Harris street and Harris Place and the matter was referred to the Fire and <br />46 rater Committee. <br /> <br />II Petition was presented requesting the council to vacate the alley running <br />rast from Olive Street, between 23rd and 24th Streets and the matter was referred <br />471 ito tile Street Committee. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Request was received from the property owners, asking the Council to grade <br />48 and gravel North Ash Street and the matter was referred to the Street Committee. <br /> <br />I Communication was presented from the Board of Appeals stating a request <br />had been received from J. F. Cramer, Supt. of City SChOOls, asking for a permit <br />i~o construct a storage room under the grand stand at the Civic Stadium. The <br />Board would recomraend that this permit be granted on condition that the <br />tloor, walls and ceiling be constructed of one hour fire resistive material with a <br />- layer of light weight asbestos roofing be placed between the layers of shiplap. Upon <br />49 ~otion, the recommendation was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />II Request was received from Bessie L. Swetland asking for a permit to <br />~onvert her one story cottage, located at 438 Sixteenth Avenue East into a duplex. <br />~t is a small cottage one and a half blocks south of the R-2 zone and as Mrs. <br />~wetl~nd's family have left, she is desirous of dividing the house in order to receiv <br />v pome lnc~me from the property.
