City Engineer Clubb reported <br />that Mr. Buck had put up a deposit of $10.00 for this work~ There had been <br />two cuts made and the bill amounting to $16.00 had been com,guted at the same <br />ratio as other paving cuts. Campbeilil for client, Mr. T.O. Nelson, asking for a permit <br />to erect a duplex on the lot at the northesast corner of 16th and Mill Streets. <br />This request is geing made for the reason that a title could not be secured <br />on the lot at 16th and Ferry $treets without court action. The Board recommends <br />that this request 'be granted' and upon Jjlotion made and seconded the recommendation <br />2~was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />Request was also received fromEdi th F. Gardiner for a c.leieilt as.king <br />for a permit to convert int'o a duplex the old building at 1065 Eighth Avenue <br />West fDrmerly used by the Adventists as a school building. . No exterior <br />changes contemplated. The Board recommends that this request be grant.ed and <br />motion was made and seconded unanimously approving thy recommendation. <br /> <br />2~ <br /> <br />A bill in the amount of $21.75 from Mary B. Wheeler, 310 East 14th <br />Street,. was presented on accouht of injuries received in a fall at the South- <br />west corner of 10th and Pearl Streets. The matter was referred to the city <br />3011 Attorney and Judiciary Committee. <br /> <br />A petition f'rom the residents at the .north end of Monroe Street <br />requesting the installation of a street light at the intersection of the Southern <br />3l~ Pacific Railroad and Monroe Street was referred to the Fire and Water Committee. <br /> <br />Curb cut applications were presented from the following: C.W. Robin,- <br />No. 865; Ira Lynd;- No. 866; G.E. Mahaffy;- NV. 862; and No. 863; James Kennedy j_ <br />No. 864 and John P. Williams, No. 860; Clyde McDougal~, No. 861; An applica- <br />tion for Safew~y Stores, No. 801, was presented for a 17 foot cut. Mr. O.R. <br />Blair'representing the Safeway StorES was present and explained tha:t they now <br />had a 35 foot cut that was poorly located and they wished to close up this cut <br />and make the 26 foot cut as shown on the blue orint attached to the curb cut. <br />The City Engineer recomnlended that the cuts be. granted and the recommendation <br />was unanimously approved. A curb cut application was also presenllLed from <br />the State of Oregon for the University of Oregon, No. 859. The City Engineer <br />recommended one six foot cut at the alley and one 20 foot cut, both cuts to be <br />measured off by the Engineering Department. The recommendation was unanimously <br />3zir"approved. <br /> <br />A renewal of Package Store Class A license for H.B. Merrell of <br />Merrell's Grocery, 94 West 4th Avenue, was presented and upon motion by Council- <br />33~an Bond, seconded by Councilman Barette the license was granted. <br /> <br />Resolution in which the City of Eugene makes application to the <br />State Highway Commission for e'stablishing 11th Avenue from its junction with <br />Franklin Avenue to the West City limits as a state secondary highway was pre- <br />sented and upon motion made and seconded unanimously adopted. <br /> <br />RES' 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council of the City of Eugene <br />does hereby make application to the State Highway Commission <br />of thi State of Oregon that Eleventh Avenue from its junction <br />with Franklin Avenue to the west city limits be established <br />as a state secondary highway. <br /> <br />34av- <br /> <br />Be it Further Resolved that the City Recorder b~ and <br />he is required to forward a copy of this resolution to the <br />State Highway Commission as an application to that body <br />for such change. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Communication was presented from Mr. C.G. Briggs, President of the <br />Booth Kelly Lumber Company asking for some other arrangement for fire protection <br />to industrial plants outside of the City of Eugene then that which had already <br />been adopted by the Council. He said that estimate of 2! mills on the assessed <br />valuation on the Booth Kelly Lumber Company and the Springfield Plywood Plant <br />would be about $740 and said that would be entirely out of the question for <br /> <br />them. It was pointed out in his letter that they had fire mains, hydrants <br /> <br />..... <br />
