The Board recommended that <br /> he be granted a permit to construct a roof only, covered with galvanized iron. <br /> Upon motion made and seconded this recommendation of -the Board of Appeals was <br /> 29 accepted by the Council. <br />I A request was received trom M. E. Batchelor asking for a p.ermit to constnuct <br /> a new residence at 22nd and McMillan with a ~et-back of two and one-half feet from <br /> Twenty-second Avenue. The Board recommends that they be granted a twelve foot <br /> set-back. Upon motion made and seconded this recommendation of the Board of <br /> 30 Appeals was adopted 'by the council. <br /> A request was received from the J. H. McDonald Lumber Co. asking for a per- <br /> mit to construct an addition to his building at the northeast corner of the <br /> intersection of High Street and Sixth Avenue,' using a two by four laminated wall <br /> on the north. The Board of Appeals is holding this request for the submission of <br /> plans. Upon motion made and seconded' the acti')n of the Board of Appeals was adopt- <br /> 31 ed by the council. <br /> L. D. Erickson's request was referred to earlier in the meeting. <br /> The request of F. L. Hampton to remodel the house at 1095 7th Avenue West <br /> into an apartment house, was referred to the council by the Bo~rd of Appeals <br /> without any recorrooendation. It was explained that this location was a single <br /> ftfamily residence district. After some discussion a motion by Farrington that thi's <br /> 32 request be granted was made, seconded by Barette and carried. <br /> A,request from H. B. Yokum to erect a duplex residence in the rear of 1306 <br /> Emerald Street was read,. It was explained that this request was from a single <br /> family residence district and the Board of Appeals did not feel like making this <br />I recommendation. There was some discussion ~n regard to this matter and motion <br /> 33 was made by Brownson that the request be granted, seconded by Barette and carried. <br /> The monthly reports of the City Engineer, Police ~atron, Police 'Department, <br /> 34 Sidewalk Repairs and Sewerage Charges were read and ordered placed on file. <br /> A letter from R. E. Buck regarding an unpaid amount for a paving cut at 710 <br /> East 13th was read. Also a letter from W. C~ Clubb, City Engineer, regarding this <br /> cut was read as follows: "Attached hereto is a letter ~ated August 4, 1941, add- <br /> ressed to R. E. Buck in regard to a paving cut located at 710 West l3th,Avenue. <br /> This matter has been before the Coun~il before and the charge sustained. I <br /> ,refused to issue permits to Mr. Buck since I have written this letter. As this <br /> is the second-time which we have had trouble with Mr. BUCk, in regard to street <br /> cuts, I respectfully request that his license be revoked." Mr. Farrington stated <br /> that he felt that the council should stand behind Mr. Clubb's request. After some <br /> discussion the matter was referred to the City Recorder with the instruction that <br /> he notify Mr. Buck,that if this balance of $6.00 due on the paving cut was not paid <br /> 35 .within one week that his plumbing license was to be revoked. <br /> A letter trom Ingeborg Sundvold was read protesting the $11.25 charged against <br /> 36 her property for'cutting dead trees and ordered placed on file. <br /> Three curb cuts were allowed by the Council as recommended by the City Enginee r. <br /> The curb cut at 951 West 6th was referred to the Street Committee with the power to <br /> 37 act. <br />I A r.equest from School District #4, asking the council to vacate Madis6nclStreet <br /> between 12th and 13th Avenues and also that part of the alley running East and West <br /> between Lots 1 and 2 on the North and between Lots 9 and 10 on the South was read. <br /> The City Attorney was instructed to prepare the necessary papers for the vacation <br /> 38 of this street and alley. <br /> A request from the Eugene ~ublic Library Board that the payment of their <br /> monthly allowance be made on the first of t,he month instead of with the regular <br />I bill~ on the second Monday in the month, was read. A motion was made and seconded <br /> 39 that this request be granted until further riotice. <br /> A letter from the Eugene Safety Council presented by Marsh H. Goodwin commen- <br /> ding the Recorder, Police and City Council for their fine do-operation in enforcing <br /> 40 traffic laws, was read and placed on file. <br /> A letter from the Insurance Rating Bureau urging that Chief Nusbaum be sent <br /> 41 to Reno for the Fire Chief's convention was read and ordered placed on file. <br /> A letter from the Pacific Coast Building Officials was read, advertising their <br /> 42 convention at Santa Barbara, California, and ordered placed on file. <br /> ..... <br />
