Mr. Calkins explained this letter had been handed him by the <br /> 1:~: Eugene Water Board with the statement that sewer charges were not being paid on this I <br /> i<~ bill. Mr. Calkins wanted the council to know this was the stand the government <br /> ~:) bodies took and he did not know of anyway to force this collection of a 25i sewer <br /> {~ charge. It was his opinion that it was not wise to discontinue the water service <br /> on account of not paying this 25~ charge. No action was taken by the council and <br /> 3 the letter was ordered placed on file. <br /> Christina and Howard Milne addressed the council in a letter regarding <br /> sewer connections for a trailer at their place number. 164 West 7th. Attorney <br /> Calkins stated that Mr. Milne had been to the office and had asked him regarding I <br /> the trailer and Mr. Calkins stated he had told Mr. Milne that there .were no objec- <br /> tions to the trailer being kept there if it was not being occupied. Mr. Milne <br /> was present and stated what he real~y v~wanted to get was a permit to connect up wit <br /> the sewer and occupy the trailer. A motion was made by Hawn. and seconded by Bond <br /> that if Mr. Milne complied with the ordinance as interpeted by the engineer's office <br /> 3] that he would be granted a permit for the trailer. Motion was carried. <br /> A letter from Superintendent Cramer of the Eugene Public Schools, was read. <br /> He stated tha t 13th and High Streets had beenllmade a stop street but there was only <br /> a button in the middle of the street and no stop sign at the curb, also, there <br /> was no traffic lane for pedestrians. He mentioned that fact that there were no <br /> traffic lanes for pedestrians at 13th and Franklin. Mr. Bond explained that it <br /> had ~lready been brought up earlier in the evening about pedestrians' lanes at 13th <br /> 32 and j!'ranklin and he would see that proper signs were installed at 13th and High. <br /> A letter requesting the city to consider the vacation of 24th Avenue betwee <br /> Lawrence and Jefferson Streets signed by James V. Green, Marvin L. Done, and Lawrenc <br /> 33,., Baunan was read. This matter was referred to the Street Committee to report back. <br /> The following curb cuts were granted as recommended by Engineer W. C. Clubb: <br /> 909, 485:East 13th; 910, 438 West 8th; 911, 1227 viillamette; 912, 2271 Agate; 913 <br /> 34 311 East Broadway. <br /> -., <br /> A refund to the Northwest Oil Company was granted upon discovery that it I <br /> 135 was a duplicate permit. <br /> A letter addres'sed to 1v1ayor Large by, the Standard Oil Company asking for <br /> permission to install underground storage tanks amounting to 4000 gallons at 6th <br /> 36 and Blair was read. On motion made and seconded this request was granted. <br /> A form of lease from the C. A. A. for a part of the Old Administration <br /> Building at the Old Airport was presented. It was pointed out that part of the <br /> building mentioned in the.lease was already under contract to government agencies. <br /> This lease provided for a payment of $15.00 per month. The Mayor and Recorder were <br /> authorized to execute this lease excepting the two rooms now occupied by other <br /> 37 agencies. <br /> A resolution authorizing the Mayor and Recorder to execute a deed for a <br /> small strip of land in front of the Eugene Water Board standby plant at the inter'" <br /> section of Fa:rrmount Blvd. and 8th Street and just North of the railroad tracks, <br /> 38 was passed. <br /> RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> BE IT RESOLVED, by the Cownon Council of the City of <br /> Eugene, that the Mayor and City Recorder be and they are <br /> hereby authorized and directed to execute the hereto annexed <br /> deed to the tugene Water Board. <br /> A resolution authorizing the Mayor and Recorder to enter into a set-back <br /> 39 contract with the Union Oil Company for the station at 6th 'and Willamette was passed I <br /> RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> The Mayor and Recorder of the City of Eugene be and they <br /> are hereby authorized and directed to enter into an agreement with <br /> the Union Oil Company of California, and the Frasier Real Estate <br /> Holding and Loan Company, respecting the West 100 feet of Lot 7, <br /> Block 2, Skinner's Donation to Eugene, Lane County, Oregon, permitting <br /> the Union Oil Company of California, to erect a building sixteen feet I <br /> from the property line of Sixth Avenue, with,a provision that at any <br /> time the city of Eugene shall widen Sixth Avenue that the said Union <br /> Oil Company of California and The Frasier Real Estate Holding and <br /> Loan Company, their successors, heirs and assigns, shall make no <br /> claim for damages on account of the portion of said building standing <br /> upon said set back area, but shall claim damages only for eland taken, <br /> and shall upon demand of the city in case of such street widening, <br /> immediately remove that ,portion of the building resting upon the <br /> area so set back without any cost or expense to the City of Eugene. <br /> - <br /> 40 A request from George Bond for three months leave of absence was granted. <br /> ~ <br />
