Motion rnade by 'Farrington and seconded by Hawn that this reso- ~. <br /> . \ <br /> .....iI< <br /> 42 lution be adopted, was carried. <br /> I RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> WHEREAS, the matter of permitting employees to make <br /> adjustments with the Council with respect to pending vacations <br /> has come up for consideration, and <br /> I WHEREAS, the Council deems itself bound by budgetary <br /> provisions with respect to payment of employees, and <br /> VHlliREAS, the Council desires to place itself on record <br /> with respect to this particular question, should it arise, <br /> Therefore <br /> BE 1'r RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene, <br /> that the Common Council deems it against public policy that any <br /> employee should receive a cash settlement for any claimed <br /> vacation, and that the only adjustment that the council will,,' <br /> make with respect to vacations, must be on a time of basis. <br /> A letter from Mrs. O. F. Stafford in appreciation was read and ordered placed <br /> 43 on file. <br /> The matter of Carrie T. Anderson regarding the 1941 sewer charge of $5.00 for <br /> sewer connection outside the city was brought up and a letter addressed to Mrs. <br /> Anderson on October 8th was rec"d. This letter stated that if remittance was not <br /> received by October 15th, the connection to the main would be shut off. A motion <br /> was made by Bond and seconded bYl.~Ba:bette that if this payJ;ljLent was not made on the <br /> 44 15th of the month the sewer connection be shut off. <br /> I A letter from Curtiss M. Everts, Jr. State Sanitary Engineer, was read. This <br /> letter was regarding the Eugene Sewage Disposal Plant and stated if the Army , <br /> Cantonment was established at Albany and Corvallis the Eugene Sewage Disposal Plant <br /> 45 should be in operation by May 1, 1942. The letter was ordered placed on file. <br /> The Recorder reported that a bill of 77~ for the month of September had been <br /> rendered the City by the Eugene Water Board for the clock in front of the Brist~w <br /> Jewlery Store at 620 Willamette. For making this charge the Water Board referred <br /> the City to an item in the council minutes of September 28, 1925. A motion was <br /> i made by Hawn and seconded by Farrington that this bill be not allowed. Motion was <br /> 46 carried. <br /> A letter from the River Road Water.,District was J:'ead which pointed out that a <br /> fire district in the neighborhood had been granted and that a levy had been made <br /> in the 1942 budget. The District would want ot enter into a contract with the City <br /> for fire protection in this district. There was no money available for protection <br /> between now and the first of the ~ear and they asked what consideration could be <br /> given them for the period between now and January 1st. Councilman Pennington <br /> suggested that for runs to this district ,thetCity might use the rates that had been <br /> in effect prior to formation of Fire Districts. Councilman Bond stated that this <br /> district had shown their good intentions and he thought the fire hazard season of <br /> the year had now passed and he felt the City could well afford to answer calls <br /> in this district from now unt~l January lost, 1942, free of charge. A motion was <br /> made by Bond and seconded by Hawn that Fire Protection be furnished this district <br /> 47 until ~anuary 1st, free of charge. Motion was carried. <br /> I Reports for the month of September from the Police Department, Police Matron <br /> 48 Engineer and Sewage Charges were read and ordered placed on file. <br /> The being the time set for hearing objections to the Vacation of Madison Street <br /> between 12th and 13th Streets, mayor Large asked if there was anyone present wishin <br /> to object to the vacation of this property. No objections were heard. The Ordinanc e <br /> had its first rehding at this time and under suspension of the rules was read for the <br /> second aild:;third times. Roll was called with all councilmen present voting aye. <br /> I Stewart and Brownson absnet. Ordinance 8697 was declared passed and the street <br /> 49 declared closed. <br /> The Recorder called the council's attention to a telephone commencaation which <br /> had been received from Geo. Schaefer Tire Dealer, during the day in which he stated <br /> 50 tire prices on October 20th would be advanced 9%. No action was taken by the counci . <br /> , <br /> Call for bids for a new truck for the Street Departmen had been carried in both <br /> the Eugene Register Buard and Daily News and the following bids were openeddat this <br /> time: Silva Chevrolet Company for a l~ ton truck, $1399.40 less $129.40 allowance <br /> for 1930 Ford truck trade in, making annet of $1270.00. <br /> ..... <br />
