A motion was <br />made by Stewart and seconded by Baker that the Council should complete the <br />purchase of the plant and that the price be taken out of the ,emregency fund. <br />On vote the motion was carried. A motion was made by Davis and seconded by <br />Barette that the City accept the Engiheers offer of a rent payment of $25.00 <br />per month. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />An Ordinance granting the Hotel Eugene, Inc. a franchise over the inter- <br />section of East Broadway and Pearl street having had its first reading in detail <br />January lOth, ,had its second reading in detail at this time was passed to its <br />29 third readings by title under suspension of the rules and was placed for final <br />passage. On roll call all Councilment present voting Aye, eRcept Farrington, <br />being out of the room at this time. H. Norton regarding the rental of this house at the <br />old airport was read at this time. Mr. Norton had paid his rent up to August <br />1943 and said that he was leaving for the Army ,at this time and enclosed a <br />check for $12.00 which would pay the rent until August 1944. Mr. Norton <br />explained that since the war this hanger had been of no use to him, that he <br />had disposed of his plane and stated he hoped the council could see fit to <br />make some other arrangement as the ahnger was not of any use at the present <br />time. A motion was made by Hawn and seconded by Davis that Mr. Norton's <br />tenure be maintained for the duration of the war and that the rent be aus- <br />pended and that the $12.00 rendered at this time be returned to Mr. Norton. <br />On vote the motion was carried. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />On account of errors in deed sto property in theeast halp of block 3, <br />Rees addition certain correction should be made. The City had acquired title <br />to lot 4, in block and had disposed of the south 61 feet of this lot. It <br />was the reco~mendation of the City Attorney that the City deed to Savannah <br />Chamberlain this lot 4, except the south 61 feet. This would allow Savannah <br />Chamberlain and other property owners in this ~ block to make cor~ections to <br />their deeds. A motion was made by Baker and seconded by Davis that the Mayor <br />and Recorder by directed to execute this deed for lot 4, except the south 61 <br />feet to Savannah Chamberlain. <br /> <br />The following January Departmental reports were read and ordered placed <br />on file: Polme Matron, City Engineer, Police Department and the 1943 report <br />of the Fire Department. <br /> <br />The following letter from the Board of Appeals was read: <br />"The Board of Appeals has this day received a request from Rev. Roy K. <br />Reed for a permit to erect a building approzimately 32 feet by 50 feet <br />at the rear of the church 'building at 13th and Madison streets fIDv the <br />purpose of housing the youth activities. <br />The BOal"d recommends tha t the request be granted." <br /> <br />On motion made, seconded and carried the recommendation of the Board of <br />Appeals was adopted. <br /> <br />Reauests for the following curb-cuts was read at this time: _ <br />A. West Johnson, north east corner Broadway and Charnelton, requests curb cut <br />of 20 feet for parking lot entrance: Gerald Snyder, 695 west 11th, requests <br />curb cut of 13,feet for private garage entrance: R. Claude Gray, 1149 Ferry <br />Street, requests curb cut of 12 feet for private driveway. <br />City Engineer reqommend that these curb cuts be granted, rpoviding <br />adjustment by A. W. Johnson be made with the property owners as to location, <br />that na old cut be made larger and adjusted so that the parking space on street <br />can be fully used. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Transfer of package class ~ and retail cl~ss B from Dean Dragoo to Frank <br />viesley Tibbett at 855 Olive Street was granted. An ~pplication of the B.P.O.E. <br />Elks #357, for package class A license was granted by the Council. <br />
