On roll call all Councilmen voting AYE. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington reported regarding the Southern Pacif~c tract at 25th <br />and Uni versi ty near the Tviasonic cemetery. This had been pr'esented the Council <br />on February 28th and an offer had beEn made by the Council of ~100.00 and <br />refused by the Southern Pacific. At this time Councilman Farrington stated that <br />the Finance Committee had looked at this property 2gain in ihe afternoon and <br />there were four lots that the City could ssll after taking a strip for the <br />street and that it was the recoillrrlendation of the Finance Committee that the City <br />offer the Southern Pacific the price of ~260.00. A motion was made by Farrington <br />and seconded by Stewart that the offer of $260.00 be fllade to the Southern Pacific <br />Company for the pirce of land and on vote the motion was carried. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington stated the Finance Cornmittee had investigated the <br />proposal of the Eugene Association of Insurance Agents which was presented to <br />the Council in the letter dated February 14, 1944, re6arding the change in the <br />manner of handlin[ the insurance for the City of Eugene. Councilman Farrillgton <br />stated that it was the recommendation of the Finance COIl1.lllittee that this matter <br />be deferred until the first of the year. A motion was made by Farrington and <br />seconded by Stewart and carried that the recommendation be adopted. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington reported that about a year ago the fWin Oaks Lumber <br />Co. had been given perfllission for a wood yard on a tier of lots on the south <br />side of first between Monroe and VanBuren streets. At this time there were <br />objections by the property owners on the north side of f.irst street and Mr. <br />Farrington stated that conditions were not very satisfactorily there. A motion <br />was made by Councilman Farrington and seconded by Barette that further r'equests <br />for the wood yards by the Twin Oaks Lurrwer Company at this location be not <br />granted.
