<br />"A MEETING 01" THE PUBLIC SAtETY COMMITTEE WAS HELD AT THE OSBURN HOTEL ON MONDAY,
<br />JANUARY '6. 1950 AT NOON, WITH THE F'OLlOWING PRESENT. MAYOR JOHNSON; COUNCILMEN HAWN
<br />AND SMITH; CITY MANAGER, CITY ATTORNEY, CITY RECORDER AND POLICE CHIEF'.

<br />AtTER THOROUGH DISCUSSION 01" THE PRESENT TAXICAB ORDINANCE WHICH LIMITS THE NUMBER
<br />OF' CABS TO BE OPERATED WITHIN THE CITY 01" EUGENE TO 30. IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE
<br />COMMITTEE THAT THEY COULD SEE NO ADVANTAGE AT THIS TIME IN LOWERING THIS NUMBER AND THAT
<br />THE ORDINANCE NOT BE CHANGED.

<br />IT WAS NOTED THAT TAXICAB DRIVERS ARE PROPERLY LICENSED AND IDENTIF'IEO THROUGH THE
<br />POLICE DEPARTMENT AND PENALTIES tOR ANY INrRINGEMENTS ARE COVERED UNDER OUR GENERAL LAW
<br />ENF'ORCEMENT. IT WAS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT THE PRESENT RATES Or riVE AND TEN THOUSAND
<br />PROPERTY DAMAGE AND PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE REMAIN AT THESE rlGURES AS STIPULATED
<br />BY STATE LAW.
