WE ARE IN RECEIPT Of CORRESPONDENCE fROM THE OREGON STATE BOARD OF CENSUS
OAKWAY AREA TO THE EXISTING POPULATION COUNT OF THE CITYOf EUGENE. ffmE BOARD IN-
. . . - +
FORMS US THAT IT WILL REQUIRE AN ACTUAL CENSUS, OF THE AREA IF WE ARE TO QUAL.lFY FOR
STATE SHARED REVENUES BEFORE THE NEXT APPORTIONMENT OF TAX MONIES MADE BY'THE SECRE-
TARY OF STATE, AND THAT THIS CENSUS WILL HAVE TO BE COMPLETED BEfORE MARCH 31, 1960.

AT THE PRESENT TIME THE CITY OF EUGENE AND OTHER CITIES RECEIVE APPROXIMATELY
$7.;:>0 PER PERSON f~OM ALL STATE SHARED PEVENUES AND ASSUMING A POPULATION Or. 4000
PEOPLE INTHE WILLAKENZIE-OAKWAY AREA, Tt~IS COULD MEAN $30,000 FOR ONE YEAR; ASSUM-
ING 5000 PEOPLE, $37,500 FOR ONE YEAR. '

7, PER PERSON PLUS OTHER COSTS FOR MAPS AJljD,OTHER MATERIALS. IT IS MY RECOMMENDA-
TION THAT THE COUNCIL APPROVE AN EXPENDITURE FROM THE EMERGENCY FUND fOR ALL ITEMS
NOT TO EXCEED $1000 FOR THIS CENSUS, AND THAT THE,CENSUS BE TAKEN AS SOON AS POSSI-
BLE SO THAT IT WILL NOT CONFLICT WITH THE REGULAR DECENNIAL CENSUS TO BE TAKEN BY
