<br />STRUCTION TO CITY SPECIFICATIONS OF SUCH STREET - A LETTER FROM MR. CHICKERING
<br />WAS PRESENTED TO THE COMMITTEE IN WHICH HE REQUESTED THAT A PORTION OF TYLER
<br />STREET NOT PAVED AT PRESENT AND LOCATED BETWEEN 8TH AND 7TH AVENUE BE DEDICATED
<br />FOR STREET PURPOSES AND GRAVELED AT CITY EXPENSE. THE DIRECTOR OF ,PUBLIC WORKS
<br />INDICATED THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE A DEMAND FOR THIS CONNECTOR BETWEEN 7TH AND
<br />8TH AVENUES AND THAT THE CITY HAS A STRIP OF LAND APPROXIMATELY 40' IN WIDTH
<br />WHICH IT HAS HELD FOR THE EVENTUAL OPENING OF TYLER STREET. To THIS END HE
<br />RECOMMENDED THAT THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT OPEN THIS PORTION OF TYLER STREET
<br />AND MAKE IT USEABLE FOR THROUGH TRAFFIC. THE COMMITTEE DISCUSSED THIS.SUB~ECT
<br />AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE STREET BE OPENED AND GRAVELED, AND THAT MR. CHICKERING
<br />SUBMIT A PETITION FOR STANDARD PAVING OF TYLER STREET FROM THE END OF THE EXIST-
<br />ING PAVING SOUTH OF 7TH AVENUE TO 8TH AVENUE. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

<br />OF PUBLIC WORKS CONCERNING A STORM SEWER LOCATED IN THE VICINITY OF 2760 ELINOR
<br />STREET 'WAS GIVEN TO'~HE COMMITTEE. THE REPORT INDICATED THAT A NEW LINE OF
<br />LARGER CAPACTTY HAS BEEN INSTALLED TO CONNECT TWO CATCH BASINS IN THIS AREA AND,
<br />THAT ADEQUATE MANHOLES HAVE BEEN CONSTRUCTED TO FACILITATE THE ,MAINTENANCE ,OF
<br />THE LINE. IT WAS FURTHER STATED THAT IN THE BELIEF OF THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPART-
<br />MENT THE ABOVE REMEDIES WILL GREATLY ALLEVIATE IF NOT REMOVE THE PROBLEM INDI-
<br />CATED BY AN,ADJOINING PROPERTY HOLDER. IN THE EVENT IT DOES NOT ALLEVIATE THE,
<br />SITUATION, THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT INDICATED IT WOULD BE PLACED ONA PROJECT

<br />IN ORDER THAT CHILDREN 'ATTENDING THE NEW ELLIS PARKER GRADE SCHOOL CAN BE PRO-
<br />VIDED ACCESS TO HILYARD ,STREET. THE REPORT FURTHER POINTED OUT THAT THERE IS
<br />NO APPARENT NECESSITY FOR IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION OF SIDEWALKS TO SERVICE THE
<br />DUNN SCHOOL AREA WEST.OF WILLAMETTE STREET. THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED THAT THE
<br />SIDEWALKS AS INDICATED,BYTHE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS AND THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER
<br />BE CONSTRUCTED AND THAT A TEMPORARY SIDEWALK BE INSTALLED ON~TH AVENUE FROM
<br />STAFFORD COURTT~ HILYARD STREET, SUCH WALK BEING OF.GRAVEL CONSTRUCTION.,

<br />BROUGHT UP THE SUBJECT OF PARKING IN,THE IMMEDIATE VICINITY OF THE RAILROAD
<br />TRACKS ON WASHINGTON STREET. H E INDICATED THAT AT 'THE PRESENT TIME FREIGHT
<br />TRUCKS ARE PARKING IMMEDIATELY AD~ACENT TO THE RAILROAD TRACKS AND ON THE
<br />PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY SO IT IS DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER
<br />OR NOT THE WIG-WAG WARNING OF THE APPROACH OF,A TRAIN IS OPERATING. HE FUR-
<br />THER STATED THAT IN THIS GENERAL AREA THERE HAVE BEEN ONE OR MORE ACCIDENTS
<br />IN THE AREA DURING THE PAST YEAR BETWEEN TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES. ,THE TRAFFIC
<br />ENGINEER INDICATED THAT THIS AREA IS BEING STUDIED AT THE PRESENT TIME IN RELA-
