HE INDICATED THE PROGRAM IS DEVELOPING <br />VERY WELL AND THAT /T SHOULD PROCEED, BUT THAT AT THE PRESENT TIME SOME ITEMS ARE UN- <br />SETTLED. PRINCIPALLY AMONG THESE ITEMS IS THE AMOUNT AVAILABLE FOR CONSTRUCTION COSTS. <br />HE INDICATED HE HAD DONE SOME RESEARCH ON COMPARABLE BUILDING COSTS WITHIN THE EUGENE <br />AREA AND THAT THE EUGENE PUBLIC LIBRARY RECENTLY CONSTRUCTED COST $13.00 PER SQUARE FOOT. <br />AT THE TIME THE LIBRARY BID WAS TAKEN THERE WAS A fAVORABLE BID CLIMATE AND THE AREAS <br />OF THE LIBRARY WERE Of A LARGE EASILY BUILT NATURE. <br /> <br />:' <br /> <br />HE fURTHER INDICATED THAT THE COURTHOUSE COST $18.60 PER SQUARE FOOT, THAT THE UNIVERSITY <br />Of OREGON CLASSROOM TYPE BUILDINGS RAN fROM $15.00 TO $17.00 PER SQUARE fOOT, AND THAT <br />BASED ON THE AVERAGE COST Of THE COURTHOUSE AND THE LIBRARY AS A ROUGH COMPARATIVE <br />fiGURE, THE AVERAGE WOULD BE $15.80 PER SQUARE FOOT.. RECOGNIZING THESE COSTS WERE Ef~ <br />fECTIVE AS Of TWO YEARS AGO. IN ADDITION TO THIS THE GENERAL CONCENSUS IS THAT THERE <br />HAS BEEN A 7% INCREASE IN BUILDING COSTS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS WHICH WOULD NOW BRING <br />THE COSTS Of BUILDING CONSTRUCTION ON THE AVERAGE TO $17.00 PER SQUARE fOOT.
