Rollcall vote. All councilmen <br /> present voting aye, motion carried. <br /> 2 The Assistant City Manager explained that Mr. Dick McClintic, representing the <br /> Christmas Village Council, had requested permission for the Council- to place a booth <br /> to receive donations for the Christmas Village fund in front of the Equitable Savings <br /> and Loan office at 899 Willamette Street. The booth would project over the sidewalk <br /> about a foot and a half and would be in place until October 16, 1964. <br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to grant the request. Motion carried. <br /> 3 Councilman Hawk asked if there is anything that can be done in the use of the <br /> microphones in the Council Chamber which would give better service and allow members <br /> of the audience to better hear the proceedings of the Council. Mr. Glen Smeed of <br /> Smeed Sound Service was present and took several minutes to explain the mechanics of <br /> the microphones and adjustments which could be made, and demonstrated to the Council <br /> the correct use of the microphones. <br /> COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Committee meeting held September 17, 1964: <br /> I "Present: Mayor Cone; Councilmen Lauris, Chatt, Swanson, Christensen, Deverell, <br /> Crakes, Hawk, and Purdy; City Manager; Assistant City Manager; Assist- <br /> ant City Attorney; City Recorder; Director of Public Works; and others. <br /> 4 1. Covered Swimming Pool and Community Buildings - Messrs. Don Lutes and <br /> Dick Gessford of Lutes & Amundson, architects, were present and ex- <br /> plained a preliminary program for swimming pools and community build- <br /> e ings proposed at Sheldon High, Amazon Park, Westmoreland Park, and <br /> possibly Bailey Hill School. Mr. Lutes also explained the feasibility <br /> and costs involved in covering the swimming pool at Amazon Park: The <br /> City Manager stated that the City could apply for an additional $10,000 <br /> for the Housing and Home Finance Agency, this to be used for design and <br /> specifications for covering the Amazon Pool. Dr. Purdy moved ,seconded <br /> by Mr. Chatt that the preliminary program for pools and community build- <br /> ings be approved, and that application be made to the Housing and Home <br /> Finance Agency for an additional $10,000 for preliminary planning for <br /> covering the Amazon pool. Motion carried. <br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve Item 1 of the Committee report. <br /> Rollcall vote. All councilmen present voting aye, motion carried. <br /> 5 2. Grand Jury Report, July 1964 - Members of the Council having previously <br /> considered the Gran Jury report, July 1964 term, discussion followed on <br /> I possible action to be taken. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mr. Hawk that <br /> the City Manager be requested to submit a recommendation on a course of <br /> action to be taken concerning that portion of the Grand Jury's report <br /> pertaining to the county/city jail, municipal court, and city attorney's <br /> office.
