<br /> 14~ <br /> e <br /> 9/28/64 <br /> --_. <br /> I <br /> Committee meeting held September 24, 1964: <br /> "Present: Mayor Cone; Councilmen Lauris (presiding until arrival of Mayor <br /> Cone), Chatt, Christensen, Deverell, Crakes,Hawk; and Purdy; <br /> Assistant City Manager; Administrative Assistant; City Attorney; <br /> Assistant City Attorney; City Recorder; Director of Public Works; <br /> and others. <br /> 1 l. Bid Opening Bethel-Danebo Sewers, Septeinber 22; 1964 :.. A tabulat'ion <br /> of the bids opened on both Systems A and B of the Bethel-Danebo sewers <br /> was presented. A letter was read from Wild ish Construction Company, <br /> low bidder, requesting that their bid be withdrawn since they had <br /> e discovered an omission of ap'proximately $130,000 'in their figures to <br /> cover equipment and labor for backfill and cleanup. This item was <br /> held over to the Council meeting of September 28, 1964 pending an <br /> opinion from the City Attorney concerning withdrawal of the bid, <br /> and whether to award to second lowest bidder or reject all bids. <br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that Item 1 of the Committee report be re- <br /> I ceived and placed on file. Motion carried. <br /> 2 2. United Air Lines Building, Mahlon Sweet - The Assistant City Manager <br /> stated a bill of sale had been received from United Air Lines on the <br /> old United terminal building at the south end of Mahlon Sweet Field, <br /> and that although the building is not occupied it is hoped a suitable <br /> lease can be negotiated. Mr. Deverell moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to <br /> thank United Air Lines for the building. Motion carried. <br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to accept the United Air Lines building. <br /> Rollcall vote. All councilmen present voting aye, motion carried. <br /> 3 3. CAB Prehearing Conference, September 10, 1964 - The City Attorney re- <br /> ported on the prehearing conference he attended in Washington, D.C. <br /> on September 10, 1964 pertaining to West Coast Airlines petition for <br /> exclusive service at Medford, Eugene, and Salem. He said that the <br /> Civil Aeronautics Board h'ad been requested to hold the hear'ings 'in <br /> Eugene. <br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt that Item 3 of the Committee report be re- <br /> ceived and placed on file. Motion carried. <br /> 4 4. Variance in standard setback location of sidewalk at 2090 Friendly - <br /> The property owner at 2090 Friendly Street requested location of the <br /> I sidewalk 2 feet from the property line instead of the standard one <br /> foot due to topography of the land. The Public Works Department <br /> recommended approval of the request. Mr. Hawk moved seconded by <br /> Dr. Purdy to allow the vari'ance.' Motion carried. <br /> 5 5. Curb Sidewalk, 3497 Kincaid, Onsrud - This request was previously <br /> presented to the Council for consideration at their September 14,1964 <br /> meeting and held over so all members could view the location. Having <br /> e seen the site, the Council voted to deny the requested curb sidewalk <br /> location on a motion by Mr. Deverell, seconded by Mr. Hawk. Motion <br /> carried. <br /> Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve Items 4 and 5 of the Committee re- <br /> port. Motion carried. <br /> 6 6. Planning Commission Report - August 24, 1964 <br /> a. Special Sidewalk Treatment on 13th, AgatE - University of Oregon - <br /> A drawing was presented showing the sidewalk development proposed <br /> for the south side of 13th Avenue and the west side of Agate Street <br /> at the new Health Service Building of the University of Oregon at <br /> 13th and Agate. A letter from the University stated they were ready <br /> to record a sidewalk easement given to the City if this plan is ap- <br /> proved by the City. The Planning Commission recommended approval <br /> of the sidewalk development plan and acceptance of the easement <br /> I dedication. Mr. Christensen moved seconded by Mr. Crakes to ap- <br /> prove the recommendation.
