The rlanning Commission recom- mended approval of the annexation. Dr. Purdy moved seconded by ~r.Hawk to approve the annexation. ,Mot~on ~arried.., 2 d. Annexatio~Aco~n Park-Hawkins Heights area (65-122) - A.map:was pre- sented showing the boundaries of the ,area in the Acorn Park-Hawkins Hill area. proposed, for an~exation. It is west of City View Street avd south of 11th Avenue. with the west~rly lipe to:be established just 'past QuakerStree~. There are approximate~y 500 residents in the area.' Annexation Shasta Loop area, Ridenour (64-152) - Tpe Planning Commission had previouslyreco~ended approval ot annexationpetitiops:for the: Shasta Loop area, and at a p~evious comm~ttee.m~eting the Council: had recom- mended some of the area boundaries be realigned pnd the public hearing ~el?yed:for t~o w~ek~. ~h~ Planning Commission recopsidered: the peti- tions,and rec~mm~nded denial of th~ annexati9n. Maps, were presented show- ing three po~~ibi~ities for ann~xation of the various, pieces of: property in the general ?r~a. In the discussion wpich followed, it was pointed out that co~siderable ~ime. would elapse, bef~re ~tilities would be avail- ab~e in th~ area and that ~mpr9vement of: the: roads generally would not be co~sidered be~ause the prop9sed'boupdary lines do~not:encompass both :sides of som~ C?t the ~oads. Dr. Purdy moved secondeq by J1r. Hawk to ~eny: the annexatiop. petit ions and ask the: Pla1;ming Commission'to consider the matter further and make a definite recommendation to the, Council for the annexation of smaller parcels in the general areq. Rezoning,toC-3P area 'at Coburg and Willakenzie (Olson)(65-006) - The Cquncil on January: 25, 1~65'approved a variance,to permit an ice cream store on this property after consideration 'of a.Planning.Comffiiss~on recommendation to deny requested rezoning to C-3P.: The matter was referred: too a joint Planning Com- missiop./ Council meeting,at w~ich time the Planning Co~is~i6n again recom- mended denial <?f the rez<?ning and also d~nia~.-of a, variance. Mr~. Lauris moved to ~pprove the:Planning.Commission recommendation. Th~ motion was not seconded. I Mr. Chatt moved seconded by M~. Cr~kes to grant a variance, requiring:pro- vision of some screening of the property and adherance to regulations of the <;;~ty' s, sign code. :Motion c~rrted. Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Crakes to app~ove Item 2 of the Committee report. Mo- tion carried, Mrs. Lauris and Mr. Hawk voting no. e A letter was read from Mrs. Betty Niven, member of the Planning Commission~ recommend- ing denial of the'variance. 5 -3. Curb Sidewalk, 40th 'and Donald, Unitarian:Church :.. The UnitarianChurch re- quested permission to install curb sidewalks on 39th and 40th Avenues near Donald Street. The Public Works Department ~eported that a curb sidewalk has already been established for the 39th Avenue side of th~ir property 'but recommended denial of' the request for a cu'rb sidewalk em the 40th Avenue side~ Mr. Hawk moved seconded by Mr. Anderson to deny the ,request ,for a curb sidewalk on the 40th Avenue side of the Unitarian Church property near Donald Street. Motion carried, Mrs~ :r:.~uris voting no. Mr. Chatt moved seconded by:Mt. Hawk 'to approve ,Item 3 of the Committee report. Motion carried, Messrs.
