Mo t i 00 <br /> carried. <br /> Some discussion was also he19 reg~rding assessment for the Coburg Road widening, and <br /> further discussion on this is s~heduled for the committee meeting to be held on . <br /> Thursday, July 15, 1965. <br /> * Widening Coburg Road from Harlow Road to Willakenzie Road completed during 1965. <br /> " " Willakenzie Road to Belt Line Road completed during 1966. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mrs. Lauris to approve Item 2 of the committee report with the exception <br /> of the sidewalk on the north side of 7th and south side of 6th fran High to alley east of High (see <br /> action on bids, page 356). Motion carried. <br /> Meeting held July 1, 1965 : <br /> "Present: Mayor Cone; Councilmen Chatt, Lauris, Crakes, Hawk, ?urdy, Anderson, and Lassen; <br /> City Manager; Administrative Assistant; City Attorney; City Recorder; Pub li c <br /> Works Director; and others. <br />I 1 1. Fire Department Salaries - The City Manager presented a revised salary schedule for <br /> fire department salaries for the 1965-66 budget, stating that positions below the <br /> classification of battalion chief would show an increase for each man of one-half <br /> of the proposed salary step increase shown in the salary classification plan. No <br /> action was taken. <br /> Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Hawk to adopt the revised salary sc4edule as presented in Item 1 of <br /> the committee report. Motion carried, Mrs. Lauris voting no. <br />e 2 2. In-Service Training Courses - The City Manager stated that with the opening of the <br /> Community College this fall and the availability of courses at the University of <br /> Oregon and the Division of Continuing Education considerable benefit could be de- <br /> rived from City employe participation in some of the courses. It was recommended <br /> that the Council authorize payment of half of the tuition for any employe selected to <br /> participate in the courses and who attained a "c" average. During discussion by the <br /> Council, it was recommended that should the selected employe complete a course in a <br /> satisfactory manner, the City should pay the entire tuition. After further discus- <br /> sion, Mr. Anderson moved seconded by Mr. Hawk to approve the plan in principle with <br /> a definite recommendation to be made after further investigation of rates and <br /> availability of courses. Motion carried. <br /> 3 3. Swimming Pool and Community Buildings - Don Lutes, architect, of Lutes & Amundson, <br /> presented plans and specifications for swimming pool and community buildings, stating <br /> the completed plans would be submitted to the HHFA as scheduled. Dr. Purdy moved <br />I seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve the plans as presented. Motion carried. <br /> 4 4. Agate Street Median Strip - The Urban Renewal director presented a sketch showing <br /> a proposed 8-foot median strip on Agate Street from Franklin Boulevard to 15th Avenue. <br /> The strip would be planted and maintained by the University of Oregon, and its con- <br /> struction would be borne by the University and the Urban Renewal Agency at no cost <br /> to the City. The Public Works Department recommended that parking be restricted on <br /> Agate Street to loading and unloading zones to relieve the double-parking problem <br />e near Hamilton and Walton Halls (east curb from 13th to pedestrian crossing, and <br /> west curb from pedestrian crossing to 15th Avenue). Mr. Lassen moved seconded by <br /> Mr. Anderson to approve the median strip as proposed and the parking restriction. <br /> Motion carried. 7/12/65 - 6 L~ <br /> - - <br />
