Crakes voting no. <br /> The City Manager read excerpts from a resolution of the Medford City Council which recommended that <br /> Eugene join with Medford in petitioning for a review of the CAB Examiner's decision. Mr. Abe Johnson, <br /> speaking for the Chamber of Commerce aviation committee, strongly urged the Council to reconsider its <br /> committee decision and submit a petition for discretionary review. The City Manager submitted other <br /> information which would indicate that the situation might change in the near future. Also, letters <br /> were submitted ask~ng that the City Council t~'file an appeal. <br /> Mr. Crakes moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to appeal the CAB Examiner's deGision to delete service by <br /> e United Air Lines at Medford, Eugene, and Salem, and to retain Mr. Harry Bowen of Washington, D. C. <br /> as counsel. Motion carried. <br /> 1 ' 4. Property Purchase. Sharon Way and Tandy Turn - The City Manage~ stated that 1-1/3 acre <br /> of ground at 'this location in the Willakenzie area has been designated as a neighbor- <br /> hood park in the Parks Department planning since the 1961 election. He stated that the <br /> piece of land is smaller than desirable, but it is the only property available for park <br /> I purposes in that neighborhood. He also stated the property owner will sell for $17,500, <br /> but that the appraised value is $7500. Mrs. Lauris moved seconded by Mr. Lassen to <br /> initiate condemnation proceedings on this 1-1/3 acre, but to negotiate with the property <br /> owner in the meantime. Motion carried. <br /> Mr. Crakes moved seconded by Mr. Lassen to approve Item 4 of the Co~ittee report. ,Motion carried. <br /> 2 5. Appointment. Gas Advisory Board - Mayor. Cone announced the reappointment of Mr. A. J. <br /> Anderson to the Gas Advisory Board for the term ending ~anuary 1, 1968. <br /> 3 6. Parking Prohibition. Frontier Drive west of Coburg Road - George Hathaway, 2405 My De <br /> Court, requested restricted parking at this location, and the Public Works Department <br /> recommended that parking be prohibited on the southwest side of frontier Drive from <br /> Coburg Road to Antelope Loop since parking is now allowed on both sides leaving room <br /> for only one lane of traffic. Mr. Chatt move~ seconded by Mr. Lassen to prohipit <br /> parking as recommended. Motion carried. <br /> 4 7. Overlength Curb Cut. Patterson Street south of 19th Avenue - The Public Works Depart- <br /> ment recommended a 70-foot curb cut at the entrance to South Eugene High School on <br /> Patterson Street south of 19th Avenue to allow safer movement of bus traffic. Mr.Lassen <br /> moved seconded by Mr. Chatt to approve the curb cut. Motion carried. <br /> 5 8. Southern Pacific. Shasta Daylight - The City Manager explained that the Southern Pacific <br /> Company has applied to the Interstate Commerce Commission to discontinue the Shasta Day- <br /> I light'. Since there has been no discussion by the Chamber of Commerce, it was suggested <br /> that any action by the City be deferred until SOme recommendation is made by the Chamber. <br /> Mr. Crakes moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to approve Items 5 through 8 of the Committee report. Motion <br /> carried. <br /> 6 9. Workable Program - Mayor Cone and Councilman Purdy reported on a meeting in Detroit <br /> with Mr. Kermit G. Bailer to ,discuss HHFA's refusal to recertify Eugene's Workable <br /> e Program on the basis of (1) dormitory sleeping rooms provision in Eugene's City Code, <br /> (2) no neighborhood analyses function in operation, and. (3) no ~ouse-to-house housing <br /> code inspection program in operation. Discussions had also been held with officials <br /> of other cities to gain information concerning steps taken in an attempt to meet re-. <br /> certification requirements of the HHFA. Councilman Chatt suggested that the City write <br /> to Congressman Duncan or Senator Morse to ask for suggestions as to what they think <br /> Eugene's position should be. No action was taken. " <br /> Mr. Crakes moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that Item 9 of the Committee report be received and placed on <br /> file. Traffic Inventorv - Mr. Howard Eddy, State Department of Motor Vehicles, presented the <br /> traffic inventory analysis prepared by the National Safety Council for Eugene based on <br /> 1964 data. Mr. Eddy pointed out highlights of the annual report and emphasized the qeed <br /> for continual study of traffic accidents to assist in reduction of loss of life and <br /> destruction of property due to traffic accidents. <br /> 8 2. Ordinance.
