Hendricks Parks - A plan showing the proposed development of Hendricks Park was
shown. It was explained the plan is intended to preserve the Park as a natural
e forest area with trails and small picnic spots and to provide roads at minimum
widths while still providing safe access to the Park and to save as many trees
as possible. This plan was first approve in 1958, and the Planning Commission
recommended its adoption with some modifications.
David Todd, 2958 Floral Hill Drive, spoke in opposition to the proposed plan.
He stated that the Park should be preserved as a woods area available to the
people of the City, and that roads and picnic areas should be de-emphasized.
He also requested the matter be deferred for three weeks so that people opposed
to the plan could have an opportunity to gather material for an alternate plan
for Council consideration.
Sanford Tepfer, 2011 Elk Drive, stated the main concern should be the availability
of the Park 50 to 100 years from now, that it is important to maintain the wild
character of the Park, that he is not opposed to modest expansion of picnic areas,
that he feels the pressure to develop the Park comes from those who wish to en-
I large the rhododendron gardens, and that there is no need for more formal gardens
in the Park.
Mrs. Lottie Streisinger, Fox Hollow Road, read a prepared statement stating that
the Park with its tall woods is unique and irreplaceable and suggesting that
funds earmarked for deve10pment.of.Hendricks Park be. used either to purchase
other properties in and around the City for picnic and playground areas or to
develop hiking trails through the undeveloped areas of the Park with picnic
tables scattered singly or in groups along the way.
e
II 8/8/66 - 8 IL~
