H. Thompson, 2885 Harlow Road, objected to the assessment, sayipg the work was not completed.. <br />The Director of Public Works explained that the contractor is responsible for cleanup and the work will <br />- - . <br />be done. <br /> <br />Mr. Fred Herbst, 2190 Tomahawk, asked who instigated widening of Harlo~ Road and explained that, in his <br />op~n~on, this was unnecessary. Mr. Henry Baitis, 1930 Buck, also objected .to the widening, and was. <br />opposed to bei~g ~~sessed for something he did not want. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Mr. McDonald that the bill be read the second time by council bill <br />number only wID~h unanimous consent of the Council. All Councilmen present voting aye, the bill was ,declared passed and numbered 15557. <br /> <br />2 Council Bill No. 8740 - Levying assessments for paving Olive Street from Crest Drive to 34th <br />Avenue; and 34th Avenue from Olive Street to McMillan Street was submi4ted and read the first time in <br />full on February 24, 1969 and held over to this meeting to allow proper notice of assessment to be <br />given owners of affected properties, and was brought back for consideration with written protests on <br />file. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />Mr. Dave Urell, 3375 Olive; Mrs. E. Joyce Salisbury, 3330 Olive; Mr. and Mrs. John L. Fea, 3365 Olive; <br />Mr. G. W. Macke, 390 West 12th Avenue; Mr. Lewis S. Wright, 3393 Olive Street objected to payment of <br />the assessment on this project, s~ying that the charges are far in excess of the bid for the project. <br />Residents outlined problems faced due to delays and stated that they did not feel they should be . <br />charged for the contractors failure to complete the project on time. Public Works department explained <br />the problems faced by the contractor on the project and that penalties pssessed against the contractor <br />were not assessed against the property owner. Projects. are not assessed on average costs o'f paving <br />during the current year, but on the actual costs of the proje~t. <br /> <br />Mr. George Lamont, 275 West 34th objected to the assessment, stating that his driveway had not been <br />replaced, and that he felt the Ci~shouilid be responsib~e for this. The Director of Public Works was <br />not awaredof the situation, and said his department would chec~ into it. <br /> <br />Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Mr. McDonailid that the bill be read the second time by Council bill <br />number only' with unanimous consent of the Council.
