He asked that the minutes be corrected
to show this.

Mr. Mohr felt that a temporary closure would demonstrate how valuable a permanent closure might be.

In answer to Mr. Teague, the Manager outlined extra staff and materials required for this closure,
and estimated the total cost would come to $1,000. In answer to the Manager, he said they had not contacted the UniversitY. administration,
but had felt City staff would do this.

<<I

The Traffic Engineer felt there would be some problem turning the public at Alder, and that a
turning route has already be~n established at Kincaid. Turning at Alder would require officer control
and elimination of some parking. Re-routing at Alder would be cumbersome and create many traffic
problems.

Mayor Anderson said he could see no objection to closure of 13th for a brief period, but he felt
there were some loose ends to be tied, and contact should be made with University administration.

Ii
'I
I

There was a discussion of alternatives, and closures of other blocks, rather than this particular
location. Mr. Gurlick was not in favor of the alternatives.

Councilman Williams said he strongly supported earth day, but he wondered if there might be a more
effective way to use the $1,000 they were proposing to spend.

I

Mr. Gur.lick said they were not asking for closure of the street for the benefit of college students,
but wanted to make this a real community effort.

Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mr. Gribskov to amend the motion to have the c16sure stop at Kincaid and
Agate.
